ATI T5 Lighting Fixture

I would have to say the Sun Power is worth the money. The Fauna Marin is over priced. It is the same basic design as the Sun Power, doesn't include a splash shield and has less output even with the Sun Power running with the shield. They need to adjust their price.

Depending on the tank size the Aquactinics Solar Flare, Aquactinics Constellation or the ATI power Module. On wider tanks the power module is nice because they come with up to 12 lamps.

Sifigoli or whatever has an interesting loking fixture but until someone throws a PAR meter under one we wont know how they stack up.

the Sifigoli is $1700 for the 12 bulb unit

I have a limited number of Powermodule units that are scheduled to arrive later this month. Unfortunately all the Powermodule units on this order have been pre-sold, but I will have some of the more economical SUN Power units available. Below is the approximate pricing on the standard 48" units. If you are interested in a fixture I would recommend giving us a call toll-free at 866-295-9230 and getting on the pre-order list as I expect the fixtures to sell out quickly once they arrive. Additional Powermodules units should be here in 2-3 months.

Powermodules
ATI 48" Powermodule: 4-54W T5 HO Fluorescents ~ $500
ATI 48" Powermodule: 6-54W T5 HO Fluorescents ~ $750
ATI 48" Powermodule: 8-54W T5 HO Fluorescents ~ $950
ATI 48" Powermodule: 10-54W T5 HO Fluorescents ~ $1150
SUN Powers
ATI 48" SUN Power: 4-54W T5 HO Fluorescents ~$350
ATI 48" SUN Power: 6-54W T5 HO Fluorescents ~ $450

This is the e-mail responce I got from Greg.He was very quick to respond to my e-mail.He seems very nice
I have been asking Grimm many questions on witch fixture to get.The problem is I am getting a 300 gal tank maybe larger 96x30x24 I will need 2x48 inch units.I didn't want to spend $2000 for lights so I may have to go with 3 to4 MH pendants witch will save me alot of money.I would prefer T5 lights but on a large tank it doesn't seem cost effective to go with T5 bulbs.I think maybe 2 constellation units may be the cheapest way to go.Its not exactly cheap but price wise they are the cheapest good quality fixture and look nicer than the solar flare.Grimm did mention that the solar flare pacts more of a punch.Thats still at least $1200 for lights.I do think I can get 3 to 4 MH pendants for that amount of money. What would you guys do?I am asking to get better options. Thanks those ATI's look sweet

grim Like I said to you before If I am going to spend $1400 I may aswell spend $1900 and get the ATI.I don't think in this matter its a deal.I do think it would be cheaper to get 2 x 400 watt double ballast and get 4 pendants.I think it would cost me less.It would be a crazy amount of light, but maybe I can run 2 of each 400 watt with differant spectrum bulbs. Its a hard choice because of the money. My friend was over yesterday and he said I would be nuts to spend that much on lights. He said go with 3 to 4 175 watt HQI pendants.I can't seem to find 175 watt HQI pendants

I wouldn't be taking financial advice from the person recoing 175 HQI's. they exist but they are CRAP.

You could use the Iwasaki single ended 175 watt 15K lamps in Lumenarc or lumen max reflectors. Those things have huge PAR for a 175.

Thats what I thought. My friend has been out of reefing for over a year so he wasn't sure if they were hqi or not.I didn't think they made 175 watt hqi bulbs and pendants you only see 150/250/400/.What ballast would you use to drive them.Should I go with a stronger MH pendant.if so what do you think I should buy.I would like your opinion since I have to way all costs.I am going overboard on this tank so I don't want to spend $2000 on lights if I can do it for less.I did want to avoid MH again but if I don't have much of a choice I will go that route. It looks like this tank is going to cost a small fortune.

Check reefgeek's site, I think the lumen max can be hung by an L bracket. I would use the Ice Cap ballasts to drive the lamps.

hello lights has the best price for those but the hanging brackets or wires are extra. How many lights would I need to cover and 8 ft tank?3 or 4 thanks

Fans can always be added. Seems every T5 mfg and their mother makes those little 120mm clip-on fan arrays for that very reason.

Can you point me in the direction of one of these clip on arrays?

Many thanks,

Kirk

Ah, I have one of those Azoos already...less than 6 months old, and two of the fans don't spin up anymore. I was thinking he was describing something that clipped onto the side of a T5 fixture to draw heat out, rather than onto your tank.

An FYI on the Sfiligoi Stealth T5 fixtures (the 12 tube unit pictured earlier), the units shipping to North America to Aquarium Obsessed will have active cooling fans (one fan per two bulbs I believe). These units are more expensive than the ATI's fixtures, but the company is rock solid with a proven track record. For people wanting a high end T5 light the Sfiligoi Stealth's are a good bet. I hope Grim or someone gets a unit to test. Sfiligoi's Infinity lighting are very unique as I don't think there are any real competitors for them. I am thinking of buying one, the problem I for see in a MH/T5 combo is, the T5's are really only for viewing pleasure as keeping them 10" to 12" off the water surface pretty much makes them useless for photosynthesis, unless I am missing something. Sorry for getting off the road and talking about MH/T5's. One thing I have heard is that ATI has gone bankrupt twice now and that can be a little scary if the company folds and there is no support.

dtaylor123, T5s compete with halides for output, and considering how small the reflectors are on the Sfiligoi, and how many and how large the reflector area is for the T5s, the T5s will no doubt be a major light source for the Stealth units. They will be very effective for photosynthesis as well as viewing.

You are right about the company going bankrupt though. Its been my biggest concern since they started importing through reefgeek. 'How long until they go under again?' I wonder, and screw everyone they deal with in the process like before. But this time around, Oliver is not in charge like before. This time Elke Müller is in charge of the company, so my guess would be that Elke is a better businessman. No doubt though, last time ATI went under, alot of people were left out in the cold. Its a large part of why Klaus and Claude (and some others) avoid dealing with ATI like a black sheep.

That being said, its not like the powermodul should be that effected by this too much. The ballasts are Vossloh-Schwabe, a U.S. division of Panasonic's lighting division Aromat, so its not like replacement ballasts should be hard to find. There are the fans then, but they are pretty much just regular DC computer fans with blue LEDs... whoopie. The real advantage of the ATI's seems to be the reflectors and the reflector material, along with the overall design and airflow. These things arent just going to 'break'. So even if ATI were to go kaput again, you still have a very decent unit... and its not like the warranty would cover you anyways after a few years or something if something were to kaput.

As for the reflectors on the Sfiligoi... who knows. Not doubting them, but so far, the ATI seems to be the highest output champion, except for maybe the overdriven Aquatinics. And I havent seen any data on the Sfiligoi geometry.
