Atlantic Anemone and more

I'm completely new with SWF and i was wondering if u could help me out.

I went to a pet store an i saw they had an Atlantic Anemone in a Eclipse System 6. I have an Eclipse 12 and it has a very poor 13w flourescent light. I got a mushroom coral with the LR i bought and its doing great. Will the Atlantic Anemone be compatible with the Mantis and survive with the poor lighting. The guy at the pet store said it didn't need full spectrum lighting.
I don't have the mantis yet, but i'm getting it on Saturday and its a Peacok.

Also, I have noticed a lot of algae is growing on the rocks. Should i just leave it there or is there sumthing that will eat it or clean it up.

Finally, I want a little bit of green to brighten my tank after i saw Tim's luxury tank. Aren't there plants that eat nitrates or sumthing. They just need to be able to flourish with the lighting and etc.

I'm just looking for sumthing to liven my tank up.

Thanks :D

I would check the newbie forum about plants and all because what I have to say has probably been said and will fill several pages. Let it be known that Plants suck up nitrates and the like. If you get a male peacock then lots of green will be added to your tank. And it's somewhat true that the anemone won't really need full spectrum lighting but you should have it as insurance. Besides it's hard to keep anemones alive for longer than a few months. This is a debatable point. I'm fairly certain your mantis will say away from your anemone. There are stories of mantis' being stung by one and remembering to stay away. Be careful, when that peacock mantis gets big enough it'll totally punch a hole in the side of that tank. If memory serves . . . the acrylic on that tank is 1/8" easy work for a peacock.

O. scyllarus live in moderate depths often in fairly murky water. I caught on last week at 10 m in water so murky I could barely see my hand - let along my buddy. This species does well with bluish light of moderate to dim intensity.

Thanx for the info:hmm2:

The Acrylic on my Eclipse System 12 is about 1/4".

:D

Oh sorry I got corn-fused. I saw eclipse 6 and thought that was the one you were talking about. But I would put money on a full grown, riled up O.S. being able to break through 1/4" of acrylic. But it would take a lot of doing I bet.

Thanx

Thanx

Thanks brekboy

I'm glad i caught this before i got the mantis. I think i'll go for a smaller mantis cuz i'd hate having to deal with 12 gallons of SW on my carpet.

I Think i like 1 of those green mantises...

;)

Well . . . like inwall said in the other thread. They will definitely try and smash the bottom. I recommend an extra piece of lexan on the bottom. 1/4" inch lexan will bounce a .22 caliber bullet at 10 ft. If you're careful and approach the tank slowly and stuff you should be okay and worry free.

Thx,

What i'm planning to do is get another 1/4" at the bottom of the tank and stick wit the peaccok mantis shrimp. Also I don't think i'm gonna get the anemone if its gonna sting the mantis shrimp. Otherwise, the anemone would be fine. I mean for $8...

Thanks a lot for all the help.

It's hard to keep anything with a mantis. But if you want to try put everything in there at once. And have a place (another tank) you can put the anemone when and if it doesn't work out. Good luck :) Let us know what happens.

Thx, but i decided that i'm not gonna get an anemone. They're way to hard for me. I'm just gonna stick wit sum simple corals like mushroom corals and stuff like that.
