Holy crap over 10,000 views now.

I am expecting another hatch tonight. I took a pic of the tile but have not had the chance to load it to do a count.

I loaded the tank with rotifers about 25% from 4 different cutlures. I am working from home tomorrow after some fun work at the dentist so I will be able to keep an eye on them and feed as required.

My 10 gallon had about 3 seperate batchs in it and some are getting pretty big, so I moved the 4 week old batch into the 2 week old batch 5 gallon. I didn't do a count but I'm guessing there are now 200 in the one 5 gallon tank. My last batch was still 100+.

I found some pellet food that is very small and fed it to the oldest tanks and they went nuts for it. I am going to stop feeding my frozen food to them. I'm sure most stores don't specially prepare a meal for their fish and it is a hell of a lot easier to just throw some food in the tank every time you go buy instead of having to go to the freezer. Plus a lot cheaper :D

More tomorrow.

I just counted the eggs and their were 730. I'm not going to post the pic as, well, it looks the same as last time

My rotifers have held up very well. I have added phyto twice to the tank in the past 12 hours.

Not much else going on!

Not sure exactly what happened but I have no where near 700 larvae and I did have 100% hatch. I had a huge dieoff almost immediatly after hatching. I still have probably 150 left.

I believe immediate die off is usually caused by physical damage?

Maybe I had my bubbler on to fast.

Anyway we are on day 3 and have not had any deaths after day 1. Rotifers are abundent and they all have very large silver bellies.

I don't have the book in front of me but if i remember correctly yes physical damage would be my guess as well, they can't starve that fast

Yup, it's usually either physical damage or water quality when they die that fast that soon. After hatch, I go for a very gently air flow, almost non existant ;)

Playing with my camera.

These are all of 4 day old clownfish after their first BBS feeding

WOW!
This is a very fun thread to read and very informational and inspirational! Those last pics you posted were amazing! Have you sold any of your older fish yet? If you get another pair of breeding clownfish I think you should get black and whites. There doesn't seem to be very many of them so I am sure they would sell very well and I think the more different types you have the more fun and interesting it will be to watch them grow and observe differences between species. Good luck on all future hatches!

Thanks and Welcome to Reef Central.

My most recent batch is on day 9. Almost all have a very thin complete second stripe. A couple don't have the first yet. I think I have about 100 but it's hard to tell.

My other 5 gallon tank currently has 2 batchs combined with probably over 200. They are being fed BBS and crushed pellet food. A couple have obvious mis-bars, however last time they worked themselves out as they grew.

I have another 10 gallon tank with 2 more combined batchs with probably 50 or 60 fish. Most have all three stripes and some are starting to get black colour on their fins. There are a couple in this tank that still are very behind they have all the stripes but are still so small.

My phyto is not doing well, however I still seem to be manageing enough to feed my rotifers. I restarted 3 of them last night but a couple are very light and may not take. We shall see.

As we say down here in the deep south..."Hey Ya'll". I'm thoroughly enjoying these threads and I can't thank you enough for documenting the process for others to read.

I have not yet jumped into the breeding portion of this hobby, but I'm trying to study up on the subject before I get going. I hope you don't mind a tag along, but I'll have some questions and will chime in every once in a while.

Thanks again,

Well I had a 70% hatch last night the other had a bacterial infection. I reduced the flow to try and have less die from what I thought was physical damage.

I had contiminated one of my rotifer cultures with brince shrimp eggs so the brine shrimp had all pretty much grown up, so I placed this entire culture into the larvae tank. So it was completely loaded with rotifers and about 30 or so brine shrimp. The brine can act as a very good water quality indicator.

Unfortunatley I used my last bit of phyto in the larvae tank last night so I need some tonight or tomorrow.

I need some advice

My wife is expecting our second child in September and I am in the process of doing a lot of reshuffling around our house. As part of this process I will finally get to setup my new 120 4X2X2 tank that my loving wife let me buy. In order to move everything around I am going to have to move my current 30g tank and set it up again. My clowns are due to lay eggs tonight I believe and I don't know if I should move them today hoping that she is so ready that she might lay them in here new home. Or should I wait till the eggs have been laid and then move them. I am leaning towards letting them lay this batch and then by the time their next cycle comes around they will be comfortable in their new home that they may continue on with their cycle.

I am also debating moving them to my new tank. I have a pair of marron clowns that have not started breeding yet I may put in their place. However if I don't put them in their new tank they will not have enough light to keep their anemone. This may be more shocking and stop them completely.

Thanks

PS Happy Canada Day

I would wait until they have laid the eggs. I wouldn't want to upset anything in the tank IMO.
