Sorry to hear about the setback. The parameters of the water could have been too different...maybe salinity or ph or temperature not the same, or maybe the water movement of a quick water change shocked them. When I do water changes, I add the water very gradually especially since I can never get the ph of the new water as low as the old water.

Yet another set back.

I was going to add some more rotifers to my larvae tank today and when I looked under the microscope I could not find any in either of my 10 gallon tanks. It appears that both had crashed. The really bad news is I have a batch hatching either tonight or tomorrow night. I may be screwed for this batch. I started a 2 litre culture with the crap from the bottom of 1 of the tanks in hopes I can start both cutlures back up. I may have to buy some more this week.

I got home last night and I had an extra anemone in my display tank bringing the total to 3 for a 30 gallon. I started with one and it split. Now the one of them has split again. It was walking around all over my SPS trying to find a new place. My anemone that the clowns are hosting in is just huge and has killed a couple of my SPS already. I have no more room left for the new one. Because it was walking around it was pretty easy to remove. It basically walked onto my hand. I acclimated it to my 10 gallon with my 5 baby clowns and it has now taken it position inside the plastic tunnel. The clowns don't really know what to think of it and have not yet gone near it. I don't think it will do well in this tank as there is only 2 X 15w standard bulbs. I will be keeping an eye on it to make sure it's stays healthy. It will be interesting to see if they take to it.

sorry to hear the troubles...I have learned by many mistakes about wc's Now I drip all water that enters the larva tank including green water!

Had a very succesful hatch last night. Just hope my rofiters took and can support a large hatch.

One of the baby clowns took to the anemone. I haven't seem him scare the others away but they are not going near it so he may have declared the anemone his LOL

Bummer about the setbacks FB. It seems some batches are just not very good no matter what you do. I don't see how your going to have enough Rots unfortunatly. You have to be carefull dripping too. Yesterday I did a water change and let it drip in the tank and went to work. I forgot to ask my wife to keep an eye on it and it overfilled the tank only slightly but 3 got stuck on the top of the tank and died. Ideally I would like to be here when the water is dripping but I have to work :)

The LFS I like to deal with gives me 1/3 retail price in cash for anything I trade in or 1/2 retail price in store credit. I think this is a fair deal. I am nearly ready to hatch out my baby maroon clowns. I have algae going but have not started rotifers yet. I am hoping to be ready by my next hatch in two weeks.

My maroon's are currently laying their eggs on a rock. How do I get them to lay them on a tile?

thanks, and enjoy all the cool pics

Of course this had to be the one hatch that I had an absolutely perfect 100% hatch rate and I wake up this morning and half were dead.

I went out and bought 2 bags of live rotifers that were bagged this morning. I put half of one bag in the larvae tank and the other two I am going to restart my cultures. They are currently in the fridge.

My 2 week old batch are doing very well and just love my homemade food.

Its strange why things like that happen for no apparent reason. Keep at it. It must be nice to be able to buy Rots locally. I have to drive like 1 1/2 hours at least.

First time I have seen this. I feed the 2 week old ones some bbs today and 2 of them (clowns) went flying around the tank like they were on speed and then they died. Wierd.

Some of the new batch have survived the water is still too green to tell how many. But here's hopeing

What all are you feeding the 2 week old batch, and how often and how large are the the water changes?

I am feeding them my homemade food 2x day and BBS every other day.

It's the frozen seafood medley: Shrimp, Scallops, and squid. then I add phyto, freeze dried pacific plankton, nori and RO/DI water. They go nuts for it.

As for the water changes I did a 20% change on day 10 and have not done one since.

Water is as follows

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate 10-20.

That's what you're feeding 2 week old fry? I didn't think they would be able to eat something with particles that big yet.

I made the batch pretty liquid and it almost dissolves in the water. They don't go near the bigger peices which are pretty small.

Might be worth picking up some Otohime from Reed and broaden up the feed even more. I'd also suggest upping the water change routine to 2 or 3 times a week at a minimum. What you described is typical for either nutritional or water quality problems, in this case it's more likely the water.

I keep having to buy new tanks so I guess that means I am progressing well.

Here is what I have going.

5 that are 88 days old - Currently in my living room in a 10 gallon display tank. They are growing VERY fast

~30 are 24 days old - Just transferred them from the 5 gallon larvae tank to a 10 gallon grow-out tank. Lost 1 in the transfer

~20 are 12 days old - In a 5 gallon larvae tank. Still co-culturing no ammonia yet!. Will be adding a sponge filter very soon.

Had about 25 hatch last night. The other eggs are still on the tile and 0 of 175 left were white when I left this morning. The rest should hatch tonight (I hope). They had very silver bellies this morning which is a good sign they are eating very well.

I am now running out of space on top of my frezzer and have no more power outlets in my basement. UHOH!

I really want to put 5 or 6 10 gallon grow-out tanks all hooked together with my Euro-reef RS135 skimmer. I am going to have to build a shelving unit or something.

With a split hatch I had another 100% hatch last night.

Things are looking good for this batch the rotifers are holding up and the co-cultureing water is clearing within a day. So I am hoping the rotifers can out grow the larvae and I can now split my 1 cuture into 2 again.

I keep two going. So when I have 2 I don't split them at all. I currently only have 1 so I will split them to have a backup just in case one crashes.
