Hatch is going good but not great. I have probably 100 left. They are just eating way to many rotifers for me to keep up. I'm going to try something new with my rotifers, just have not determined what yet. I'm obviously not keeping the rots clean enough. The other thing is that most times my rots have a day head start on the larvae and take control of the tank before they hatch.

Another clutch of eggs were laid around 7:00 last night. I have not been able to get a good look at it yet. I came home and the tile was half knocked over. They were pushing it out of the way to lay on the rock. I gave them a stern warning and put the tile back. They were laying eggs within minutes of me putting the tile back.

I have 3 5 gallon pails going and that keeps up barely. "I gave them a stern warning and put the tile back" Lol.

I came home tonight and only had about 40-50 left. I went to get some rotifers and both my cultures had crashed again. I have restarted one of them and plan on getting the other going again tomorrow.

With no rotifers to feed I gave them some BBS. It is the end of day 3 but it appears they are eating them so we shall see.

I tell you it never fails!!!!!!!!

When you remove the tile from the main tank doesn't it have some affect on the eggs exposing them to air or taking them away from their parents?

I leave the eggs with the father until the last night before hatch.

When I take them out they are not exposed to air. I place a clear tupperware container in the tank and then place the tile flat in the container. I then take the container out of the tank (which now is full of water). I then bring the container down to my larvae tank and submerge it. I then remove the tile underwater and place it in it's location. Sometimes they get exposed to the air for about 1 second when placing the tile behind my heater. Once in the larvae tank they are constantly in motion by water displacement from my bubbler (acting like the father fanning them) Now that I have my process down I have had 3 consecutive 100% hatchs.

If only I could get 100% survival

That sucks. Too bad we aren't closer I have lots of Rots.

I know.....I am desperately trying to find someone who breeds that lives close to me so I could pay someone watch my fish for my upcoming week’s vacation. You obviously live too far for that.

I asked a similar question on aquariumpros.ca but my post was deleted as asking for help apparently isn't allowed

Thanx for posting and sharing!
Clarification of my assumption.
You place the heater on the botton , about 2" parallel to the front glass.
You the place the tile between the suction cups of the Heater leaning the top of the tile towards the front glass ??
You then place an air bubbler on the bottom such that the air bubbles go up past the eggs, massaging them as they go past?
Is that correct?? Or post a pic?
Thanx

Not exactly.

You place the heater on the side of the tank. The back of the tile should be up against the side of the tank. Then the bubbler gets suctions cuped to the bottom of the tank. So the tile is not actaully leaning but is 100% vertical.

I have to go to a stag tonight so I can't get a pic tonight. I will try tomorrow.

I'm planning on having the fry tanks plumbed into the broodstock system but will need to get some heaters for the first few days when they will be isolated.
What heaters are you using and what are you using for the bubbler?

This is the heater I am currently using --- its a 50 watt heater in a 5 gallon tank

I use one of these and just put flexible line tubing to it. I then use a valve to control the amount of air.

It is too bad we are so far apart. I would help you out. They deleted your post? Rude. Are they eating the BBS still? Are you having any deaths from them? They can choke or get stuck in their stomachs if they are too small..

Yes they are eating BBS. I have probably 40 left. They seem to be doing well.

Thanks FB.
Picked up my maroon pair this afternoon.

Good Luck

I picked up a used 65 gallon tank that has a single corner overflow.

I would like to use this tank to host my mated clowns. (1 currently breeding, 1 mated pair of maroons not spawning and I would like to pick up another pair of breeding occelaris) I would like to split it into 3 20 gallon compartments. I have a couple of questions on how to do it.

I went to Lowes on Saturday and they have a big piece of blue acrylic that they will cut to size. It is selling for around $60-$70. It will work nicely as they will not be able to see each other. Will silicone (reef safe) hold acrylic to glass? I also like the fact that I can easily cut teeth into the acrylic to allow water to flow between compartments

I also noticed they do cut to size glass for around $10.00 / piece. This is obviously much cheaper but the fish will be able to see each other. They also had mirrored glass for the same price. If I went with the mirrored glass would this spook the fish. If I were to use glass what could I do to keep the fish in their own compartment. I'm not sure if you can buy gutterguard in Canada. Is it safe to paint glass that will be wet?

Anyway let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Yes silicone will hold, if there no added pressure. I've done this in sumps before, just use 1/4" acrylic and lots of silicone. IMO glass is hard to paint I'd use acrylic.
