With just the 250W heater in the reef my temp only went down to 78 which is a good low I think. Currently it is running at 80.1 with the halides on.

I added the 300W heater back downstairs it is warmer just not sure how warm.

Batch 4 looked ready to go tonight so I transferred them over to the 5 gallon tank. I counted 534 eggs. This is a smaller nest for this pair.

For rotifers I have a 5 gallon heated bucket with a sponge filter in it. I also have a 1 gallon unheated culture going now. Both seem to have taken very well but as expected the heated one seems to be doing better. We shall see how the sponge filter helps this batch. Still no where near the number of rotifers I would like to have, so I will see if we can scrape this batch by. I should probably wait but I can buy more rotifers next saturday to recharge my cultures if needed.

How are you getting by on that few of Rotifers FB? What's your feeding routine? I have 3 cultures going. Well 4 now but officially 3 :) And you have more babies on average then I do..

I haven't really. I got maybe 60-70 fish out of the last three batches. Almost all from one hatch when my rotifers were doing well.

If their is one area I need to get better at it's rotifers.

Had a split hatch last night. about 60% hatched. I left the tile in the tank with strong flow, we shall see what happens today.

The rest of the eggs were white when I got home and the tank temp was 85.6. I turned it down and it is down to 84 now. I have probably 100 alive. I also added some Oto A and some filled up on it pretty quick, others don't seem to care for it yet.

I did a 10 gallon water change on my system tonight. My nitrates were the darkest colour on the API test kit which is 160 I believe. I also siphoned the bottoms of all the tanks and cleaned the glass.

I'm starting to see bubbles in the sand bed so hopefully it will start to bring it down. I lowered the flow in each tank and increased the flow through the sandbed to try and get better flow. I will probably do another 10-15 gallons tomorrow.

How old are the ones you fed the Oto A? How many gallons total is the system?

The larvae that took the Oto A were about 18 hours old. :D

I'm not sure the exact volume of water in the system but here are the rough numbers.

7*8 = 56
1*20 = 20
1*35 = 35
Sump = ~20-30

Probably ~135 gallons

Really they ate it? I haven't tried them that early. It will be interesting to see the survival rate you get.

135 gallons. I'd probably change 20g a week depending on test results. I'm doing 15g approx in my system. Its now about 80g total.

They are all very skinny and don't seem to be interested in the Oto at all, if that is what I saw. Rots are not ready for this batch I doubt any will survive.

FB,

When you have your tanks lined up like this:

2071309860050149585S600x600Q85.jpg

are the sides of each tank painted/covered so that the pairs can't see the occupants of adjacent tanks? I didn't know if that would interfere with mating or if it mattered.

Thanks!

There is a piece of cardboard between each tank.

Do you ever cover the front of the tanks? I didn't used too but now that I do, many more survivors.

I used to but don't anymore.
