ATTENTION : ANEMONE MOUTH !!!!
Hi, I know i havn't posted here in a while, but i remember comming here before to share ideas and look for help.

I have a situation here with my green carpet anemone. I fed it twice today and after the second feeding of brine shrimp it shrunk significantly and now it appears like a ball of guts has come out of its mouth and I don't know how to assist it. I need assistance !

It looks like a bubble out of its mouth. Do you think it doesn't appreciate the brine shrimp ? or is this some sort of allergic reaction, is it dying ? or is this not uncommon. I looked at a picture of the anatomic chart for these things and it would seem like its gonads are protruding out of its mouth cavity. The clown i have - has invested alot of hours inside of this anemone, ever since i put him in the cube tank which was about 2 days ago.

I have this posted on another forum, so far no one has responded.

Any chance of getting a clearer (( less blurry )) picture?

Where did you get it? (( Online/Shipped, LFS, or local reefer ))
How long has the tank been set up?
What lights do you have?
What are your water parameters? (( with numbers ))

From the picture, it doesn't look good. And even the underside of the oral disc/foot looks a bit "off" to me too.

Green Carpet Bubble problem

Green Carpet Bubble problem

Ok, The PH was a bit off, I'm in the midst of correcting that with a ph buffer and doing a 10 % water change.

The Anemone didn't really appreciate the buffer obviously - nothing unusual and is almost completely shriveled up.

be back with final results in a few min.

Amm 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Ph 8.8

Salinity - 1.019 -1.020
temp 78-80 f

anemone hasn't degressed much further - but the bubble is still the same size over its mouth.

Your salinity should be at 1.026 - slowly raise it up.

Your pH is pretty high, stop using pH buffer --- what are your Cal, Alk and Mag levels? (( those play a huge role in pH, and easier/safer to fix pH that way ))

Need to say this again, stop using pH buffer.

+1!

Also, read this thread. There is great information that can be taken to treat your nem. Do whatever you can to save this majestic animal.

hey thanks guys, this is really crazy, the bubble that contained what appeared to be the bubble formed containing the inside matter and regurgitated shrimp just detached from the anemone minutes ago !!!

The Anemone is open again, and slowly recovering it seems !

The clown has not yet returned to it, hopefully it will soon. It wouldn't go near it when that bubble was forming and still attached, but i took it out of the tank, it was pretty disgusting lookin.

Don't worry i don't plan on raising PH buffer, thanks for the advice.

I will keep you updated if you like.

That salinity needs to be raised up slowly, that is not a good spot to have it at. Like Todd said, raise it to 1.026. Thats not good for coral life or animals like the anemone

Bigger than its ever been :eek1:

Looking better, though I would prefer the mouth to be tightly closed, but this is still an improvement.

Is the glass dirty-- trying to figure out what all the white stuff is -- almost looks like calcium fallout.

Really 1.026?
I always thought that 1.024 to 1.025 was ideal for most coral. I keep SPS and LPS in my tank. Can you please explain? Thanks in advance!
