Got my pair from LA today

Got my pair from LA today

They seem to be ok together, but i am not sure if they are a true mated pair, the female is huge and i suspect the smaller one is a juvi, the smaller one swims real close and follows the female everywhere, but she did grab him once and held on to his fin, she finally let him go and they are swimming together again...will watch and see what happens....

yeah the female looks alot bigger. i think if not a true mated pair now, they should have a good chance to soon.

It might be the picture, but your male's color looks faded. Mine was a jet black color and then it's color started faded. Slowly turned to a greyish color, then it got a white film over it. Observe the male carefully, because it was the first one to go for me. It used to follow the female around then all of a sudden it started darting everywhere like crazy, then it would swim into the current, it had to do with it's gills being affected. By the time I researched and found out it was brook, it died the next night. Sad thing was it was a couple of days after the 14 day period. I took the female out and treated it with formalin in a QT and lowered the salinity, it died a couple of months afterwards causing my entire tank to crash because I had left someone taking care of the tank for two weeks.

Another thing you should check for is after feeding it, maybe 15-30 minutes check if it has hanging white feces. Both of mine came in with internal parasites and I think that was what got my female later on, because I never treated it. I have bought a couple of more onyx and all have come with internal parasites. Sometimes after feeding them they would bloat and float to the surface, it would seem like they were tired. I acted quick and bought Maracyn 2 followed the instructions and it got rid of it.

The three clownfish I have right now finally decided who was the male/female and the outsider. The female has grown drastically, while the male beat the other male up. I have the outsider in a specimen container and will pair it up with one of Rod's soon.

You can't really tell, but the one in the container in the top is the extra male. I have a female Maroon, a juvenile tomato clown and the Onyx pair together in a 50 gallon tank. I'm hoping the tomato and Maroon pair up, but the tomato is always hanging out with the Onyx percs. The both females went at it the first night, but now there aren't any problems. Each stays at there side of the tank, but at night all five of them sleep together. It's kinda weird, but as the maroon gets bigger I'm going to have to take her and the tomato out.

rbdesigns, thank you for the pics.

the onyx are really nice. its funny how all sleep together at night. how long have you had them again?

i had a perc with a maroon as juvs. but after about a year, the maroon just decided one day to kick the percs butt. and i have to remove it.

If the clowns get brook and die before 14 days, is that covered in the 14 day stay alive policy? Is there also something you can do so that they dont get brook? I had a pair die also. I just want to know if I should or shouldnt do it again.

I've had the Onyx clowns for 5 months, the tomato for 2 months, and the maroon for a month.

Yes that would be covered under the stay alive policy. I though tank raised clowns would have a lower chance of getting it unless put in a tank that already is infected.

You can't stop them from getting Brook, but you can stop them from dying by treating them with Formalin.

Well almost a month and all is well, they seem to get along fine, female can be aggressive at times, does not like to share the RBTA a few nips to the male but mostly get along. Been watching them carefully so far no signs of disease...eating voraciously...have all the meds just in case...but so far do not need to use them.. also have not noticed white stringy poop, so possibly no internal parasites either. Overall happy with my LA clowns, not as great colors as rods clowns...we will see what the offspring look like when/if they breed..
