For those of you who are supplementing vodka or other form of carbon. Have you noticed that there is less tendency from powerheads and pumps to seize or get stuck?

I've been dosing for about 8 months now and I have noticed that I don't have the build up of gunk on them.

Do you suspect this is due to a bio-film in the deep dark crevaces that are the pump shaft housings?

i run carbon via emperor and aquaclear HOB. I have 2 powerhead that have been on for over a year and a half. They are coated with coraline but no jams. Not one. They do more but that should help.

And its not only present when vodka dosing.

Vodka dosing merely increases the amount of bacteria present on surfaces.

I have heard from people that are using the bio pellets that this stuff can get everywhere too. I would assume the same would happen with any form of carbon dosing...?

I guess it covers filter socks pretty good too?

Early in the process ( I'm in 21+ mos with vodka and vinegar) you can get some mulm around pumps etc even bacterial clogs in gfo reactors and gac.. The benthic bacterial strains on the rock and substrate seem to take over after several months and I don't see anymore snot.I get coraline but not tons but I never got alot and little to no a biotic precipitation of calcium carbonate. Easy infrequent glass cleanings too. Low Po4 and NO3.

Go vikings. Lot's of mistakes 5 turnovers vs 4. Crazy game. Too bad about the jets too. Too bad it was the patriots that shellacked them that is. I'm going to the Brown's game anyway .
