Attn Neptune owners: DC8 recall

Pure coincidence that I found this when googling for a DC8. Neptune Systems if voluntarily recalling all DC8s with serial numbers between 81000 and DC81633. See recall here: http://www.neptunesys.com/recall.htm

Be sure to check your DC8s. They are offering to send out the replacements first. Neptune has great customer service!

I have one being recalled. Neptune requires you to provide a credit card number and will charge $100 against it until the defective unit is sent back and received.

It is a $100 Authorize Only. This is just a hold. Unless there is a Commit transaction, the funds are never transferred. All this does is confirm that you have $100 available for them to take. If they don't get the returned unit, I would expect they would commit the auth and take your money at that point. I've done some POS stuff with Verisign and this is how Auth Only works with VeriSign.

On another note, if you don't care about the risk of shock I'm thinking it sounds like a good cheap way to get another DC8! lol. A DC8 costs $175 online! OK, I'm Just Kidding.

FYI, this recall was over 2+ years ago. If you recently purchased a new DC8 then it does not have this issue. I see that a couple of folks filled out the recall form on our website, but their serial numbers were 10000+ (not the 1000-1633 of the recall range).

Curt, what is the issue and does it impact any of the DC4HD (never mind, I read the link re: electrical ground)? I still need to send you back my DC4HD again to see if we can get to the bottom its problem (any chance there is a similar issue with the DC4HD case and ground of the same vintage?).

Hmm, it would be VERY nice if that recall page had an actual posted date on it so we would know how old the recall is. That recall page was returned as #1 on a search for Neptune DC8 and was the first time I'd seen the recall.

Sorry, if this got anyone unnecessarily worked up. I must have misread my DC8, too. I could have sworn it was in the range as well, but Curt is probably right about misreading the SN.
