Avoiding invasive sp.

Realizing Ive made some mistakes in what goes in my tank and probably moreso where I put it.

Seemed like a good idea getting these blue clove polyps at the time.At first I thought they would be a good filler to add.Got a frag and put them in ,syked I'm going, jen ,hey jen,jen look ,look ....look it,got these and wait till they start spreading.
Yep and that they did,now a year later there outa control spread to areas I cant get at,their hard to remove and will grow on anything.

Another one I found to be a headache is pink&gold zoas.Thought I was smart putting them up high in the tank after they seemed to show better color, and now have become a smoothering fricken' nighmare to control.Encroaching sps and just way to hard to keep up with.Despite cutting ,ripping ,pulling them out and remaining piece regenerates like an aptasia.
Thought it was worth a headsup, if you got them might want to watchout.

If you know some others like this I'd appreaciate knowing what it is or where not to put it.

I gotta say GSPs, anthelia, and Xenia come to mind.

I love GSPs, great coral, easy, nice color and motion. But you have to keep them isolated for sure.

yup, im going through it with my gsp,not to bad but i gotta do something before it gets out of hand. went through it with my xenia.
Mushrooms are like that too. Let them go for a little bit and next thing you know you have a lot!!! Green button polyps to. Tried to over run my acans.

false coral would be another id think encrusts on everything if you ever go to fairmount and the the 135g display it covers alomst the whole back side of the tank and ABC has rocks with it and its covering that whole rock

I have my GSP on it's own rock. It's so pretty flowing in the current. I got rid of the other piece that was spreading on a big rock. My xenia is also on its own rock and seems to be staying put. My kenya tree died back when I upgraded to a new tank but is making a comeback now. I'll keep an eye on it. I love these three pests!

At one time I had gsp on a small rock it took off for me and made a sweet carpet on the bottom of the tank that I thought was sweet till it got on the stack man that was a pain. another thing is those huge elephant ear mushrooms they get like 8 in around man they can take over

lol, yeah those do get huge ,dinner plate size is just to big for a mushroom in my scrawny tank.

- I got some gsp mark you can have,Ill be around this weekend if it works for you.

-If I know you or not- want some of the bluecloves or pink & golds dont be such a stranger ,your welcome to it.

Yep ,florida false coral.Wish I could find a pic of the liverock I had withit on it.I got it the around the same time fairmount got there shipment to setup that display.Back when they were on W.Geenny st.Carribean rock was heavy withit and a ton of other stuff.I think it would surprise some to see what liverock looked like then.I agree though that stuff is an overtaker.

Found one pic but it only shows the left corner and is in the backround, not much to see in it.

I have a large green star polyp that I put at the top of the tank back when my lights weren't all that great. Good thing because it spread like crazy, but it shadow itself and trimming once in a while definitely helps. Will be doing that soon

I'll never put xenia, anthelia, or kenya tree in a DT ever again. GSP though, looks great to me. I'm going to try to propagate it along the bottom as much as possible. I'd love to see some pics of GSP gone bad if anyone wants to share...

There are corals that can grow fast. Also some are difficult to remove from rocks once they become encrusted. But any coral that grows out large without trimming and grooming may become a pest. I had one tank with a montipora outbreak, to the point I had to take out and kill a 2 square foot chunk. Also had valida acro and pocilapora grow everywhere.

Get corals that you like. Control growth pattern, size and location. You can be happy even with gap.
