AZ Ocean is closing.

"Hi All,

Hope all is well.

Well, Tuesday was another fun day of power outages. It went out somewhere around 8p Monday night and when Michael got to the store Tuesday, at 7:30a to check on things as he usually does, there was nothing but an eerie silence when he came in. Thus, the fun began! My beautiful Bellus angelfish in my display tank, a wrasse and a couple of corals were the casualties. I've had enough. Since opening the store, it's been one thing after another with electrical problems, a/c problems, not to mention you're occasional thief and whatnot.

So, after thinking long and hard about it for the last couple of days, I've decided that I will be closing the store at the end of the month. I will still have my business license, website and I'll be moving what I don't sell here to my home and will operate a smaller (yep, even smaller than the store) albeit safer business there. In time, who knows, maybe I'll open up another little place. One that has wiring that is from this century! In other words, I will still be around and still have things for sale, including dry goods, foods; everything pretty much like before; just not as accessible.

I am going to Puerto Rico on the 16th for a much needed vacation and to build my chocolate business which has taken off greatly; chocolate and fish?? who'd of thunk it! The shop may be open while I'm away, I'm just not sure yet. So, this weekend and all of next week is the time to come in and pick up some stuff.

I am letting go of the large frogspawn that is in my Solana tank by the front door. That tank has been moved to my home already. I have had him several years and he's about 12 - 14 heads (I don't know the price of him yet). All my fish and corals will be discounted. But, like I said, what I don't sell here, I'll just bring home with me. However, they will be discounted lower than I've had before. Once I figure out what I will and won't be taking home with me, equipment wise, I'll shoot an email out.

Many of you helped me out with generators, fans and buckets during the first power outage in August that lasted 5 days. We've had several others along the way, but usually not more than a couple of minutes. The one on Tuesday was another long one that didn't end 'til late yesterday. Again, thank you to those that helped me once again.

I'll keep sending emails and keeping you up to date with things. Please email me when you need something or just some advice like before; nothing's changed in that way.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your support, patronage and friendship throughout my time here. It means alot to me. I really wanted to make a difference in this hobby and I hope, in some small way, I did.

Take care and I hope to see you soon!

yea that sucks but, on the other side my sister said there is a new store at mcclintock and university called reptiles and reefs havent been there so i dont know anything about it.

Yeah big bummer, I was in right after the recent electrical fiasco.... what a mess. I wish the best to Roxana & her family. GREAT people.

The store is closing but she will be running it out of her home. She will continue to update her website. You can still call or email her to get items that you want.

Yeah, I went there when I was originally looking for AZO.

Really unimpressive.

I'm so sorry to hear that the storefront will be closing. It seemed like a great little space. Obviously, the building itself was less than great, but the displays and decor were cool.

I hope that their customer base is able to support AZ Ocean as a home business. Does anyone know what part of the Valley Roxana and Michael live in?

Edit: GigaFish and psimitry, when did you visit Reptiles and Reefs? If it's been a while, maybe they've balanced out their focus since you were there. If not, I may save myself a trip.

Its been a while, but I dont expect too many changes. My brother in law knows the owner very well and his lifelong focus has been reptiles, not reefs. When that store was opening my brother in law kept calling me and asking me the most basic questions regarding reefkeeping and those questions were for his friend that owns that place. I dont know. Maybe I shouldnt have said anything.

i went there today nothing but 3 damsels and the skimmer didnt even have the collection cup on it. nice guy though. i cant see the store being a reef store ever its all filled up with reptiles. i did get some crickets for my bearded dragon cheap.

It really is too bad she's closing up. One of my favorite activities was to hit up there and Four Peaks in one fell swoop. Now I'll just have to drink beer by itself :(

THAT SUCKS, IMO AzOceans had one of the best selections of corals in the Valley. Her display tank was the nicest I've seen in a LFR, in terms of selection and even price. Not big in space but big in heart!! Think about opening in east Mesa or Gilbert! :rolleye1:

I went there today just to say hi and bought some fish food. Really sad to hear that they're closing. It was my fav store just because the service and she really took great care of everything. oh yeah, I know someone asked ^ up there about where tehir home business will be located... Roxana said they only live 2 miles away from their store. So not too far... at least they're not completely done.

I must have been the one in the store with you because I had that exact conversation with her.

lol, I was wondering if that was someone from RC. Did you end up buying some candy canes or something like that and a maxijet?

Yeah, I got the candy canes and the maxi jet and then when I came back after work for my candy canes I got suckered into dropping another $55 on some acans. Damn colorful corals.
