B-Ionic A-B group buy

I am out of B-ionic A-B ESV solution.

Usualy I bought a 5 gallon pail set up, but I do not use asmuch as I did in the past now that I do not tranship and do retail/ specialorder reefing much anymore.

I'd like to split the 2 5 gallon pails 4 ways if possible.

Interested parties reply here.

Usualy it cost 20.00 a person for a gallon of both A and B.

* Compare this to retail at local shops, and you should be "down" with this.

It's been spelled out pretty clearly!
A= calcium= calcium chloride
B= buffer= mostly sodium bicarbonate + some sodium carbonate if you have it.

I have a recipe in the basement. Aquatic eco is a good source for the bulk chemicals if you are leary of the home depot route.

Can't wait to see that firebag head again. Almost fell out of my seat.

ESPI- anything else you think they might put in it? Been making my own for 5 years now. Really don't know- maybe some borates or whatnot, but nothing critical. Mg++ can be added seperately and easily from a variety of sources if needed. Sheesh dude- here's a handfull of mashed potatoes coming your way

What do you use...epsoms seem to be most readily available?

I've tried making my own. I've found the formulation of ESV is really good and is consistantly stable.

TA, Epsoms are a bad idea.

There are somethings that money can buy, for everything else, there is the internet :p

Been a while since I used it. It is a great way to suppliment calcium and carbonates though. I use 2 part solutions for my smaller tanks. The 58 gets kalkwasser for all makeup (Dave, please don't flame me for the 50# bag of Codex lime I have in the basement that I got for $10), has a koralin calcium reactor running 24/7, and when needed gets a bump with 2 part solutions. If I used 2 part solutions on that tank, I'd be broke!
 
Mike, your reef-hobby is reliant on your wallet for it's support......... please don't give then grade F meat when they deserve Grade A or choice kobe beef for supplements :p

Only if you were using commercial products such as B-ionic, etc... (which you don't)

DIY 2-part:
50 lb bag CaCl2 cost me ~$18 (will last for years!)
Box baking soda (about 1 month supply)....75 cents.

only part of DIYing a 2 part solution I want is the part where I add 3.5 gallons of RODI water to the 5 gallon pail of ESV concentrate.


None of us are "rich", but I know what works, and I'm not a "Bill Ny the Science Guy "chemist.

I agree with you- trust what works for you. The peace of mind knowing the variable won't screw things up goes far. That said, I'm fully comfortable with my chemistry and husbandry habits- they work for me.
Money isn't that tight that I couldn't afford the more expensive stuff, I just don't find that I get any better results with it. And, if I were making my own solutions because I couldn't afford the other stuff- well then this would be the wrong hobby for me.
I feel the same about making my own food mixes- actually even more strongly- as I doubt many of the commercial products are as complete. Green water is the same- grow it fresh, cost pennies, and it as alive as it can get...
On a side note, I realized while walking to the cafeteria the other day that I must work at the nerdiest place on the planet- and I love it. :)

Me too....but then not all of us can be. :D
I'll stick with homemade 2-part.
 
Making a decent two-part additive is pretty simple- even YOU could do it, Dave!

You just need the support and love of your reef club to give you the confidence needed for those first shaky steps.

THIS I CAN AGREE WITH !,

There is a point at which ease and need outweight the PITA time involved in making some things...... like butter or icecream or Tiramisu and quishe.

I'm not disagreeing it is indeed "easy" to make a 2 parter, I just an offering if anyone wants to go in on it as a bucket of ESV is what I'm getting :) Must be doing something right... cause I'm sure in hell NOT changing what I'm doing with my reefs at this point in the game ;)
