Back after 2 1/2 Year Hiatus - New 225 on the way

That foam is very dense i don't think it would compress much either, not enough to worry about your plumbing.

this tank is going to be amazing i have seen the setup at greenwich aquarium and the cabnetry in the store is exellent:)

good call on the external overflows

how long till you fill it?

Many thanks GSMguy.

Today I decided to give the tank a "test drive" by filling it with tap and running the pumps and skimmer. I wanted to make sure I had no leaks since I did a lot of plumbing. So far so good.

I didn't notice much compression at all with the foam so that is not an issue. I will let it go for about 24 hours and then drain the tank. Tomorrow I am off to pick up the live rock at Greenwich Aquaria. Jason told me he picked out some awesome Tonga. He has had it for a week so I will probably cure it for another couple of weeks in my Rubbermaid. I will post some more pictures tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of the tank filled and the rock. Enjoy...

Ok....time for an update. A week ago I put the rock in the tank and created 2 islands with a nice channel down the middle. I also left a little room in the back for some flow. The structure has some tunnels on the bottom so water will also be able to flow through front to back. Jason did a fantastic job picking it out and I'm really happy with the way the structure turned out. It is 7 pieces and the total weight is approximately 200 pounds.

The rock was pretty far along before I put it into the tank so everything cycled pretty quickly. This past weekend I added a cleaner crew, a few Anthias, and some Zoos to move things along. The fish are eating so I'm off to a good start.

that looks great. i know you don't have any corals in the tank yet other then some zoos, but how do you feel about the lighting so far?

love the aquascaping!! Very open; Great setup!!

question: how deep is your sand bed and what type of maintenance do you anticipate doing to it, if any? If SSB, I've seen some guys change out their sand 1x/year.

Wow what an amazing system ReefBum! Love the aquascaping and the open top setup.

I am currently planning a 84"x36"x24" @315 gallon I will be ordering from Aquarium Obsessed and im currently at a stand still on choosing internal or external overflows. No doubt i would prefer external overflows but have been a bit nervous in commiting to them. Any feed back you can give on yours would be greatly appreciated such as noise, flow, and even demension if you dont mind. I read where you said they were about 6" off the back of the tank but how about depth and width? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me and again congrats on your incredible system!!!

Chip - So far I'm loving these lights, although the true test will be when I add some SPS. I really like the color and the coverage I'm getting with the reflectors in the hood. They look a lot like mini Luminarcs.

eaglesrx - The sand bed ranges from 1-3 inches, which amounts to about 200 lbs. No plans for any maintenance...will just let it do its thing.

AquaTom - So far the external overflows are great. I really like the fact that I have the extra room in the tank and that I have nothing inhibiting flow in the back (no corners with dead zones from internal overflows). I was worried that the tank would not look good about 7 -8 inches off the wall but it is really not a big gap and not very noticable at all. As for noise, I have dursos on mine so the noise is really neglible. Dimensions are 18"L X 7"W X 12.5"T.
