Back after 2 1/2 Year Hiatus - New 225 on the way

That lighting unit you're getting looks really cool based on the pics I've seen online.

Someone mentioned a couple users here have those lighting units, does anyone have links to their threads?

ReefBum - do you think you'll end up putting any kind of support under the overflow boxes, or are you not concerned about it? I've read about some people being concerned about the stress it might put on the back piece of glass, but I wasn't sure how much of a problem that actually was.

The lights are really something. I will post some pictures of them over the tank this weekend.

Here are the other threads related to the lights:

No concerns at all about the external overflows needing support. Aquarium Obsessed has been doing those for a while and they have never had an issue. I know they put some triangle support pieces under the extra large overflows but mine are standard size.

keith, i remember corresponding with you a few years ago. you had an inspiring tank back then and this next one looks even better!!! looking forward to your progress :)

Do those lighting hoods come with ballasts or do you have to pick up your own?

Chip - The HQI ballasts for the halides are sold with the unit but they are external. I like the fact that they are much smaller than the PFO HQI ballasts I had a few years ago. The ballasts for the T5s are inside the hood. I will post some pics later today.

Yep...I remember. Many thanks for the kind words Tim.

kozmo02/Zoos - Thanks guys. Now the key will be to keep it clean !

Here are some shots of the tank on the stand with the light fixture. The stand is still missing the bullnose and shoe molding, although I think it looks fantastic with the tank and the Sfiligoi light. Jason at Greenwich Aquaria has these fixtures and stands (I bought the custom stand through him) and it all fits together beautifully. Jason also hooked me up with the custom sump.

Super clean...really nice!

Joe, I remember when you were just starting up your 180...doesn't seem all that long ago.

That stand looks amazing! I really like how the doors look recessed. Do you plan on leaving the top open? I like the lights.

What room is this tank in, living room, family room, office?

JazzMan - The stand is awesome. The carpenter that built all the stands & cabinetry at Greenwich Aquaria was the one who did it. Extremely nice and very talented. As for the top, I do plan on leaving it open since I like the fact that it adds that top down dimension.

In regard to location, it is in the living room and it really is the main attraction...no TV ;)

Dude that tank looks incredible to say the least, those lights are awesome. that thing looks so sharp i am actually considering about nominating that emty tank for TOTM.
LMAO

Thanks guys. I spent the better part of today connecting the plumbing from the tank to the sump room...oh boy was that fun.

The rock has been ordered so hopefully next weekend I will being the curing process.

Thanks Ron.

Question here...

I have 1 inch of the Home Depot pink styrofoam under my tank and I'm wondering how much it will compress after the tank is filled? I have everything hard plumbed with PVC pipe and now I'm thinking I should allow for some compression. I'm thinking it couldn't possibly compress more than a 1/4 of an inch. My guess is it will compress by a couple of millimeters. Any thoughts or experiences?

I had the pink ridgid foam under a 210 for a year and to did not seem to compress at all. If it did, it was less that 1/16th of a inch.
