Back to the Reef Express, Building my new System

RGibson,

I have an automatic feeder that feed 4 times a day, a mixed of all flake food you can think of, also a variety of small pellets, and every other day after work i will feed a mix of frozen foods, cyclopeeze, mysid shrip, etc.
So they really get the best they eat like pigs they need all this feeding cause they are so active but if you give 3 times a day im sure they will be fine.

hope that helps

So from your experience you think the Lyretail Anthias do best when fed several times a day? Do you feed anything to eliminate internal parasites? Do you loose many of them? I am interested in trying a group of Anthias and I am considering the Lyretails. Any other suggestions or recommendations. Do you buy them locally or on line?

I have not lost one, maybe just my luck, also to add is really my preference cause they are really the most affordable, that said if is a small group there are other stunning Anthias of course more expensive but if you are planning on keeping a trio or up to five that's cool, I try to get them pretty small and probably will try to push this school to 18 or 20, i have just small fish in the tank beside the 2 tangs.

I bought them locally and they were quarantine and fed well before i add them in the system.

Feeding many times a day really benefits the entire system, you can get a Eheim feeder, and as dried food I mix:
Cyclop-Eeze Freeze-Dried,Omega One Spirulina,Ocean Nutrition Formula One & Formula Two Flake & Pellet Food, Prime Reef Flakes,Brine Shrimp Plus Flakes,
ORAGlo Fish Food,

I also feed every other day a frozen mix of meaty food ... they go nuts lol

I know it sounds a lot but i really refill the feeders in my system once a week.

From feeding several times a day their colors are dramatically change (brighter) from when i first got them.

These fish begin life as females and will change sex based on the requirement of their harem. Anthias gather in huge schools around reefs where they swim within the school waiting for food. These schools can be seen in the hundreds and are made up of small "harems" of a single dominant male, less dominant males, and many females

I'm also going to add a school of anthis to my tank when it's done. Which automatic feeder are you using? and is it working good for you?

Love the tank and tile work btw.

-Endy0430, thanks im glad you like it!!;)

-masharp1126, I have the Eheim 3581 "Feed-Air" Digital Automatic Feeder
Programs up to 4 daily feeding cycles of flake food or small granules, like the ORAGlo
is working pretty good to me so far no complaints at all, make sure you put a Feeding Ring were the food is dropped, if not you might loose 50% going in the overflow, works like a charm.

hope it helps

Helps a lot. In fact you just answered my next question about the feed ring. Thanks for the help and sorry for taking you off topic.

SICK set-up ROBZ!!!

Couple questions for ya....Do you have your 30K Lokani on the substrate? Thinking maybe I should move mine down a bit, as it still has nice color but grows agonizingly slow!

Here's a dummy questions for ya too, where did you/could I get aluminum like you used for the canopy? Is that welded, or just bolted togather?

TIA!

-Chris, stop by anytime;)

-stunreefer, thanks for the kudos, the 30k Lokani is on the substrate, i haven't move it since it landed in the tank, the coloration is sweet although slow grower...
You can get the aluminum in HD or LOWES, angled aluminum is pretty cheap and used a Rivet Tool to get it together nice a clean.
