backup generator thoughts?

I'm on the phone with them now, and they have no clue what I'm talking about. If you got it, you got a deal they ain't given anymore.

Good for you, bad for everyone else.

they have it on clearence . then before 8-1-06 they had 25% off all clearence items. and they mail me 10% off and then mywife sign up for there card and you get $25.00 off making it 425.00 with tax for a $699.00 item. clearence price is $569.00.

Here what I pickup and they do have about 6+ left over.

I was looking into the briggs and stratton 40234 15KW standby generator ( LG / LP) . The best price I saw was about $3995 w/o a transfer switch which will run about $450. This also includes the battery, oil and filter.

The comparable Generac guardian 5243 / 5244 16KW runs about $3400 / $3700 with the transfer switch. thats about $1000 bucks difference. Cannot see what the extra price buys, perhaps a better engine ?

Seem like the Briggs and Stratton for the most part needs to go through authorized dealer which make it more difficult to get a better price.

Dont mess around. get the 15KW that will back up your home. If power is down for a couple of days, you wont regret the move. Check with Farm and Fleet for the best prices on the Gaurdian. Ebay has one right now for $2899 including transfer switch.

rxinc did HD do the install on that?

Yes Home Depot sub'd out to Generator Technologies 1.708.756.4943 per the sticker on my transfer box, I had them come out once about 2 yrs. ago for a tune up/ test and haven't tried calling them since.

How ironic this thread has been... after 5 yrs. of essentially no power outages, just 2 days ago it went out for over 10 hrs., a battery system wouldn't have helped. A little neighbor kid came by and said " my mom wants to know why you have electricity" It is really nice knowing that if you are gone on vacation etc. all will be fine.

Chuck I was on the phone to them last night and the manager of the store said there were none of these in the store. The guy who remembered you said that was a closeout, last one, not getting any more. Offered me a different one, even bigger at same price, but I looked up hte specs on it and too darn noisy.

I was there today they have about there to four there. I was there around 8:30 pm. that this time closeout price is around 565.00 was 699.00.

I'll call again in the morning and ask but when I talked to the mgr when I was online last night he mentioned the Wheelhouse 5550, said it was $599, and that they had no more in. Remembered selling the one to you at $425 cuz it was the last one. Will call in the am...

What I need is proof of the price you got so they'll give it to me. :)
Wanna meet me there in the morning!?! hahaha

Called and talked to the manager. Said there's no way he can do that price and has no idea why you got it.
Said it wouldn't matter if you or anyone else came in with a receipt to prove it, there's no way he can sell me
one for that price.

You got a good deal there I guess!
