banded cat shark

Can I put a banded shark with a niger and humu-humu trigger fish? The trigers are about 3" long and the shark will be about 5-6 inches long.
 
first off...do you have any idea how big these guys get? I just did a quick google search on them and 2 sites said 40 + inches...thats WAAAAYYY too big for a 75, if that is the tank you're talkin about putting them in. Even if its only 6 inches long now, it still should be placed in a bigger tank. Thats really small for a shark.
 
If it's a Cat Shark, Black Banded Max. Size In Aquarium: Up to 3' 6" from Doc F&S, They say 180g min, but we all know they size a bit small.
 
A 180 for a three footer is way undersized as they swim constantly and usually do better in a round tank.

Hey there I just got rid of a 350 gallon tank that had only 1 shark in it and for that shark you neeD AT LEAST A 250 IF NOT MORE . THAT WAS THE FIRST SHARK I GOT ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO, AND I HAD IT IN A 180 AND IT KEEP JUMPING OUT BECAUSE THE SHARK GOT TO BID BEFORE I COULD PUT HIM IN THE 350 THAT SHARK WILL GET 4 FEET ATLEAST MINE DID IN ABOUT 14 MONTHS HE WILL NEED AT LEAST A 3 FOOT WIDE TANK AND TOP KNOCK WATER TO KEEP HIM AND WILL COST A LOT OF MONEY TO KEEP I WOULD SAY IF YOU CAN AFFOUD TO HAVE IT GO GET A HUGE TANK OR A PLASTIC POUND TO KEEP HIM IN WHILE THE TANK IS BEING DONE AND AS FOR TIGGERS NEVER PUT ANY FISH WITH A SHARK THAT WILL TRY TO BITE AT THE SHARK BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE THE SHARK TO GET A INFECTION WITCH WILL LATER KILL THE SHARK ON HEY MAKE SURE YOU GET REALY GOOD EQUIPMENT TOO.NEED ANY HELP WITH WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BUY JUST ASK
 
HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF TRADING/SELLING AN ANIMAL BEFORE IT GETS FULL GROWN ? OR UPGRADEING TO A LARGER SYSTEM (I GUESS NOBODY HAS EVER DONE THAT)

GETTING BACK TO YOUR QUESTION, I HAVE A HUMU HUMU WITH MY SHARKS AND EELS AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE .

Wow, did I miss something? Did someone tell the guy he couldn't do it?
 
Well if thats the case, crhis, Ill go buy a shark for my 40, let it stay there for a few days, oops its getting too big, and Ill take it back to the LFS. Putting a shark in a 75 would be like locking me in a closet with hardly any room to move. BUT we dont know what size tank he is wanting to put the shark in. People here are looking out for the livestock, and wanted to make sure the shark wont be living in a small tank.

True story. The only tank listed in their sig is a 75, and there was no mention of another tank.

Also, 2 triggers are going to outgrow a 75 pretty quickly. They're fine while they're only 3 inches, but 75 just isnt big enough when they grow a bit.

One last thing... there's no need to type in all capital letters. And there's no need to go on about people being "know-it-all's" and whatnot. Usually when you start putting other people down, that makes YOURSELF look like the "know-it-all" :)
 
If you want a shark, get Sharks and Rays by Scott W. Michael. It's a great book for anyone who wants a shark or ray. I would increase his minimum aquarium sizes that he has listed for the different shark and ray species by about 1.5-2x, though.

I would also say that the triggers being with the shark could be hit or miss. I think the Xanthichthys triggers would be a better fit, being less likely to nip the shark. Hope this helps.
 
One reason there is usually criticism for advocating Sharks or Rays is this is the Newbie Forum. Both are hard for even the experienced reefer to maintain for any length of time so questions about them should be placed on the Reef Discussions or Advanced Topics Forum. We know people do keep sharks successfully but I never like to see a person start out in SW with a possibly problem species.

How about those Triggers. ;)
