Any Updates?
Fry are doing well and seem to be happy. The first batch have been sold off, with the next to batches growing well also. The second clutch is about 2 months old now and the third are 5 weeks or so. I have been busy with other projects now that weather is nice, and I have slacked on the hobby a bit. I have not lost any fry but I have only been feeding them 2-3 times a day. They have not taken to frozen yet but should soon.
Parents taking a break and have not mated again. I am just watching them and feeding them as much as I can. I hope to have the breeder system online soon but not enough time in the day it seems.

wanted to update since been gone for awhile. My other hobby is bicycling and when weather is nice you will find me out on the bike 
. I love it but my tanks tend to suffer in the summer months....
As I stated last post the parents stopped mating and for the past couple months seemed content to just "hang out". The tank has been stable although I have not done much with it lately, and the algae has been returning with a vengeance. This past week I did a WC which was long overdue, and cleaned out my skimmer and replaced the impeller. Algae has been receding and things looking good in the DT again. Low and behold after all this Sunday I saw Mom & Dad at it , and now the male is holding eggs again ! Maybe a little TLC was all that was needed
The breeder system is still offline but with another clutch on the way I will need to get this going. I still have roughly 50 babies from the 2nd and 3rd clutch's that are doing well in the fuge and secondary 10 gallon breeder tank. They are eating frozen now but still too small to go out yet.
My LFS says they will take whatever I have and give me store credit, so this is helping to support the hobby. I figure all the money I have put in this hobby, at the rate I am going I should be able to break even in year 2053....

Thanks for the update. Breeding these guys is one of the things I really want to do.
As far as money. It is possible to make a small fortune breeding fish. You just have to really know what you are doing and start with a large fortune.
well, I am 0-2 then. LOL
If I ever get the breeder system going I would like to try other species, clownfish & mandarin perhaps. I was getting concerned when the cardinals stopped breeding. Feeling much better now. I realize now I cannot let routine maintenance go for very long w/o consequences.

Thanks for the interest reefish123. I am still raising the fry and have had only a few fatalities, right now I have 46 fry about 1/4 inch long. They have been eating frozen mysis and brine for about a month now and seem to be doing well, no aggression noticed yet.
my breeder pair mated about a month ago and the male was carrying eggs, but a week ago he either ate them or released them too early. I am trying to feed them well now hoping they will mate again soon.
good sign , last night saw the mating dance again.
I have a few days off this week and hope to divert some much needed attention to my tank and getting breeder system online. Glad to see the pair mating again since I had one cardinal jump out of the tank a few days ago and I was hoping it wasnt one of the pair. Of the 5 original cardinals I picked up last year I now have 3, 2 of them have jumped ship.

17 banggaii's if I counted right. Last night I had to force dad to spit them out since they were 29-32 days in the mouth. They are in the fuge now and eating the pods. /QUOTE]

The breeding pair of cardinals are still doing quite well. This summer I missed out on gathering several clutches that the male released in the tank and were gobbled up. I was able to save a few that made it into the overflow.
Just last week I finished the breeder system which should not only make things easier but also take the bio load off my main DT, helping me gain control of algae.

last night was excited to see the pair mating, since this was the first time since I moved them to the breeder system a month ago. I am breathing a bit easier now knowing they are back on the 'ol schedule.
This should make collecting the fry much easier now ( having them in the broadstock tank ). I must of lost over 100 fry this past summer due to not being able to catch them in my display tank.

Been awhile since last update and lots happened. The breeder system has been going for several months now and showing signs of a mature system, i.e. plenty of pods, pineapple sponges and some algae. The breeding pair are currently holding eggs which will be the 2nd release in the new system. Currently I have 6 fry that are a few months old about 1 inch long, and 12 babies that are 1 month old and approx 1/2 inch long.
When I first moved to the new breeder system I was losing fry about 1 a day for a few weeks and was not sure why. My water parameters were fine. I did notice my brine shrimp hatchery was not getting a good hatch rate and so I purchased new eggs from brine shrimp direct that were decapsulated and have not had any problems since. Growth rate seems to have improved also.
