They look bleached because they are bleached. No amount of picture clarity is going to change the milky white translucence of both the pedal and oral discs. The pale colors on the berries is normal when bleached. The good news is they seem to be in good shape. A little TLC and some feeding to make up for the loss of Xooxanthellae should bring them back around in no time. As to their color it's very possible they are yellow / orange. Keep us updated with pics.

I have the same yumas and the lfs [aqua tech] bought 1000.00 dollars worth 1mo.ago and said they lost 80 % because of the special need of these super colored yumas... I like to know the special needs these guys need ? having trouble w/ mine any help...... be o so nice.

heres what i do as soon as i get a hard to find coral

i frag it and put it in as many lighting situations possiable.... i have one high up and one on the sand bed... they seem fine. i dont hthing they have any needs other hten any other ric

Sorry Goda but the fact that they are translucent means they are bleached. The bottom ones will be oranges and the top ones might be something interesting when the color up.

I have handled thousands of Rics, those are b-l-e-a-c-h-e-d.

im preparing a few ric rocks with blue green and oarnge rics.. cant decide if i should include some of these on the rock. ( there are alot of them that are shaded because of the shape of the rock and i want to get them off)

I also agree they look a little bleached. Not an inditement, just an observation. With a little TLC they should color up fine.

I have bleanced rics in my tank that have been bleached for going on 8 months now. Once they had colour, now they don't and they are SLOW to get it back, if they survive at all because they are shrinking.

What is the best thing to do in case of bleaching. I had some orange/purple floridas that I acclimated to my 250w 10000k HQI. They did fine for a good half a year, got real fat and split. Then they slowly shrivelled up over the next half year and bleached. They kinda look cool colorwise (sort of neon pink/green) But they are shrivelled. I moved them far from the bright light for about 2 months now and they are still the same. What's should I do?

Yeah it looks bleached and some what orange. The only yellow rics I've seen were yellow tenticles and a blue base.

Offhand, is it even possible for bleached rics to recover in a tank? Where would the returning algae come from? Hanging out in the tank? This is a serious question, not rhetorical at all...

Does anyone know the answer scientifically (not, "the guy at my LFS said...")?

from other corals in the tank possiably..

lots of corals spitout the algae to regulate it

frogspawn for example does it more then most corals.

plus if it is in the ocean naturaly why wouldent it be in the tank even at extreamly low levels

Corals retain some of the zooxanthalle, It is never completely gone. It just takes along time for the numbers to multiply.

If you want a coral to regenerate it's zooxanthalle quicker - Feed it.

If you feed the coral it will give the zooxanthalle a break from making food for the coral and it can spend all it's energy multipling and absorbing the nitrogen from the food you are feeding to the coral.

cla337 - Shade them even further and try adding some pyhto to your tank.

I did not say anyhting earlier but half the color from Godas first pics are actually just diatoms on the glass. Scrape those away and you stil have some bleached orange rics.
