Thanks for that... I would imagine that under pressure (weight of water) It wouldn't matter THAT much, but it would be interesting to know the process of cement and epoxy.

Thanks for posting Spaz. Does Bill have a website where he is posting his build progress? If you can't post the site on RC, could yo pm it to me?

alot of this has shanged over the ther last coupleo f years. the rk2 is gone and replaced with the dart needle wheel skimmer. there is a 600g tank in the fish room now. the schuran reacotor was replaced with a bigger diy reactor. all the lights are different. all the plumbing to the tank has been changed to optomize the flow. and all therock work has been changed to open up the tank for the fish. there are alot of other little things that were changed with this system so those pics dont show how the system is today.

Here's a question for you, how many people does it take to aquascape 20,000 lbs of rock??? Isn't that a little like prison work?

well i will let you know how tired i am after a weekend of hand setting 22,000 lbs of rocks. i might very well feel like i was on the chain gang after that weekeds worth of work. lol but bill had a couple of strong kids that will help and i think energy and i will be going down to help out. im sure bill will have a couple of other guys to help out too. so it shouldnt be too bad. lots of icey hot afterwards. ha ha ha ha
and a big steak.

sorry no new pics yet. they have had so much rain in the chicago area that the basment is under 2 ft of water. bill was hopingthe tank walls would be poured already and he could start epoxying the tank real soon.
sorry there will not be any tickets sold to see this tank. but you never know. maybe bill will decide to have 1 day for an open house so everyone can come by to see his masterpiece. but dont count on it. i think bill would be afraid people will tell everyone where he lives and they will be trying to come by when ever they feel like it to view his tank.

Okay, so blindfold us and drive us around for a while, so we get disoriented...

this is showing signs of "big tank addiction". I think you need to seek professional help for this problem. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

This is everyones dream. To be rich and build the biggest fish tank you can, especailly one you can swim in. I'm jealous, but happy for Bill.

dont quote me on this but i think the cement needs to cure for at least a week before the epoxy is applied to the concrete. i will check with bill nad se what he has to say about it. i cant remember for sure.

Concrete should set for atleast 28 days before it gets painted with epoxy. Also, it should be at least powerwashed first to remove any slag/ skinned over cement from the forms. Often times there are small to large pockets hidden under a thin skin of concrete, and these are only exposed when hit with a powerwasher, and in reality its best to hit all new cured concrete with a sand blaster to find those hidden holes while also providing a slightly rough surface for better paint adhesion. TNEMEC (cement backwards) is a good epoxy paint, and they recommend the first coat be thinned by 10% for better adhesion, then two coats at regular thickness.
