yep. it sounds funny but its true. there is a place up there taht has very nice poures rock. it called "tufa rock". alot of the bigger public aquariums use it. you have to buy alot of it to even get the stuff.

That is what I have in my very little 125. We have a rock and stone yard in Dallas that sells it for .18 a lb. You can go get a wagon hand pick your pieces and your off.

Phenomenal and collosal project. I will definately be following this project. Thanks again Spazz for passing it all along to us.

I think this tank (and several others that are over the 1500 G mark) need a seperate "really freaking big tank" forum so that the 240 G guys can still feel good about themselves when posting their builds.

Amazing though and thanks to Spazz for the documentation....now to drive all over suburban Chicago looking for the thing!!!

by the way your right. and it works alot better than a standard di unit.

I am referring to the recircualting DI unit on the water holding tank. I grabbed the wrong quote.

I would like to understand more about this and how it works. IS there a small pressure pump that sends the water back through the DI filter and then into the storage tank?? How big is the storage tank?? Is RO water pumped into the tank initially?? Or is it DI initially?? Is that DI filter just to keep the water at a constant zero TDS?? Excellent idea I am going to try, assuming I get it.

the storage tank is filtered through the di resin bed on a constant basis until it has a mega ohms reading of 18.3 on a conductivity meter. its not your standard conductivity meter. its a lab grade conductivity meter. if the water does not go above 16 mega ohms the resin is burnt out and replaced. he has to replace the resin about every 6 months.
his ro/di system reduces the tds of the water down to almost nothing. it is so low the tds meter reads zero. but there is still stuff in the water. by looping the water through a di resin bed you reduce the tds down to absolute nothing. this is alot mre effecient way to reduce your water to absolute nothing.

After I go and ask the question I get the answer from the man himself. Bill called me. Thanks for passing on my inquiry. He answered some questions for me that have really cleared things up.

i glad you posted i was very interested in that..
i hit up the link to the resin that you (spazz) posted, and it listed off a bunch, how are they different, and / or, which one is best suited to marine application?

a bit of a technical question: Does the resin company recommend the cement cure to a certain point before sealing? Or is there to be fiberglass cloth involved in the process? I guess I'm wondering about adhesion to the cement and if it is even necessary...

dont quote me on this but i think the cement needs to cure for at least a week before the epoxy is applied to the concrete. i will check with bill nad se what he has to say about it. i cant remember for sure.
