Clam

Clam

Hi All,
I think I want to get some kind of clam. I need to know what kind and
will it be any problems in my small tank.
Thanks,
Barry

After searching through your thread to find your light (first page), then cross-referencing the nano box for the dual-nano one (2x13 LED pads, right?), I think you should be okay.

While clams do eat particulate matter, it'll be much smaller than anything that your NPS corals eat. They may filter the water a bit, but don't buy them for that reason. And do remember that they need lots of calcium and alkalinity, and especially more LIGHT. You have a good light and your corals have been doing well, so you should be okay.

Clams are kind of a pain though, and neither of mine have actually "settled" into their spots, one gets moved around now and then, and the other moves himself around a lot. They've been in the tank for about 6 months. I think they're just not happy because there isn't enough room for them to really find a perfect spot. But they're growing and open every day, and responsive to light changes, so I guess they're doing okay.

If I had the room, a maxima would most certainly be in my tank. Had a big maxima back in the day and I loved watching it open and close. Their not hard to keep, just require stable parameters, consume a lot of ALK and Kalk, and a lot of light.

Good luck with one if you find one you like.

Thanks ReefWreak and Homer, uniquecorals has a 20% off sale today.
Going to have a look there.
Thanks again guys,
Barry

December Update

December Update

Hi All,
Here is my December update. These photo's were taken about an hour after
lights out. This is the first time I have turned my lights back on for photo's.
Everything seem to be doing well.

Glad I had to see these at home as they look stunning on my 65" computer screen... lol

I think your tank needs some acans though. LOL. It would balance the color with the sun corals. ;)
