Before and After Pictures

im an addict lol
Ok so did some side by side shots to show comparison. most of these where hit by the back chloramines problem I had that wiped out most of my tank last Jun-Aug 2013 :( I lost many colonies and had to start over. here are a few that pushed through and survived and there recovery pictures as of this morning. all pictures are cell phone pictures. I have more to post but photo bucket is acting up again. :(

Curious to hear more about the chloramine problem. How did you discover the issue?

Pictures look great btw.

Man that's awesome! Glad to see everything coming back. I remember seeing your tank right after that happened too, it was hard to see as.

Yup tossed away a lot of coral during that period before things started
Looking better.

Well short version on how I figured it out. All parameters stable and good. Every time I did water change lost corals next 3 days. Changed all filters in Rodi. Everything better for a month then problem started again. The filters where shot because of the chloramines. Then added a new carbon block of catalytic carbon before normal carbon block. Solved the issue. I now change out the catalytic carbon every 6 months to be safe.

It angers me how successful you are with SPS!!

Envious!

Ohh wait you have an awesome ATI T5 Fixture!!

I think Roger's success with SPS has more to do with his understanding of everything rather than his light setup.

Did the chloramines only affect sps? I've had no luck with sps at all, lps do ok, and anemones thrive. Sorry to derail your post but I've been trying to figure out what my problem is for a while.

LPS like chalice, war coral and favia die too. The hammer torch corals did fine.

That sounds a lot like my problem... Thanks for giving me another path to explore. Thinking of adding a chloramine block right before my DI so it doesn't get consumed by regular use.

I don't believe that's the right placement but I'm no expert. I just listen to the expert. John from faois had me install it right after my sediment filter

I will just answer the lighting question publicly

These corals r under a single 250w 20k radium single ended fixture. The light is hung about 18inchs off the water. I have a mixture of about 18 440nm cree LEDs, also a 4ft strip of 455nm led off brand. This is over a 4 ft tank has single halide.

to multiquote,

theres an icon, " , you have to click on, it's located on the lower right of each post, just select the posts you want to quote except for the last one, the last you one you click on the "quote" and just reply to each post within the quotations

Am I reading that right? You're only using 3 lighting groups: 20k, 440 and 455nm and the corals are thriving.
After reading countless threads and suffering so much confusion during the planning process, I now know where I'm going to start with my lighting (when I finally get the salt tank started later this spring). The look and health of your tank are my goal.
Thank you for sharing!
