best additives for sps color?

I have a bottle of Seachem Reef Trace. Shoot. I want to try it, but now I'm all into the KZ Pohls Extra, and if I don't isolate it, I'll never know if it works or not.

I hear alot about that Phols! Yes, please let us know how it works. I havent dosed anything for a month or so. It would be a good time to do a trace element experiment. Meet back in a month and swap results?

Does anyone actually keep track of daily dosage amounts and results? I hung a whiteboard on the door of my tank so I can write down important dates and make quick notes. It works great as a reef journal. At the end of the month its nice to look back and see exactly what I did and how I did it.

I keep a journal normally on my iPad, but since I started re-engineering the spreadsheet, I fell off the wagon a little.

I need to go back to journaling. It's really the best thing, and if you're the "mad scientist" type like me, it helps keep you from OD'ing on supplements.

i'm dosing Ca, Mg, Alk, buffer, and few drops a day for K, Sr, I, Br, few drops a week for Fe+Mn, but found that they do work only if nutrients are low.
Fe+Mn is not as good as i thought. when it is overdosed, some of my acroporas STN.

I took a LOT of pictures last night. Just gotta pull them off my SLR.

Will post tonight.

Cool! Post em up. Ill take some current ones and am planning on dosing some trace elements to see if there is any difference after use. Probably will dose for 30 days or so. Interested to see what the before and after shots will look like.

I agree that Koral Kolor from Brightwell does nothing at all. Tried it and saw no difference. Reef Plus does help growth. Lugols is great as well.

With regard to Lugols, I'd be curious to see a before & after shot. Lugols is simply potassium iodide solution, right?

Yeah, Lugols is just a concentrated potassium iodide solution. The common belief around RC is that its used to brighten blue colors. Ive dosed it conservatively in the past and its hard to say if the blues pop more. I did go a little overboard one month and it started to make my corals grow weird. The new growth started to curl downward. It reminded me of how plant leaves look when you over fertilize.

I've dosed Seachem Aquavitro Vibrance, a potassium iodide solution. Can't say that it changed a thing for me either. I've never seen a before/after shot proving that it improves blues.

I know it's a commonly held belief around here, but I have to challenge it.

I agree. I havent seen any correlation between adding potassium iodide and my blues looking better. I did find out that adding to much iodide freaks the corals out.

I loathe my connection at home...

On the bright side, I've successfully uploaded all my photos onto my memory stick. I'll try posting them from work tomorrow.

Also, I've tried to do my BEST approximation of what I THINK the corals looked like before I started dosing the additives. I know it's cheating, but I don't have any old pictures for reference. One thing I will say is that my colonies are med/larger, so none of those color by growth/default stuff.

See y'all tomorrow!

So I saw my tank yesterday for the first time in about 2 weeks. Holy crap is it dirty! Coraline covering everything. I really need to spend a few hrs with it this weekend. Hope the reef tank police dont see this post. Need to pick up some filter socks and the trace elements this weekend. Going to snap some refferene pics and let the dosing begin!

Anyone know of a good camera to pick up? Ive been rotating between the iphone camera and a old cannon I have. Cant ever seem to get the clear close up pics.

Okay, so I had to do some cropping to hid some embarrassing nuisance algae that's been overtaking my tank lately, but here are a few pictures to start:

Some of these corals have never been in water that didn't have KZ additives, so I could only speculate what they would have looked like prior. The monti was a brown out rescue that spent the last four months in a friend's tank looking brown and boring (he rescued it, not me). This is three weeks after going into my tank.

I have a LOT more images, but only so much time to spend on this post... :(

What I think I might do if I can find some space is kill the additives for a month until the color dies back, pick up a frag from a friend, leave it for a few weeks to stabilize then restart the additive process.

Ok so I bought Pohls, and my zeo guy reccomended Coral Vitalizer and Bio Mate as well. Which is the best, and what are they analogous of - meaning - if I'm dosing Pohls, can I lay off on Reef Plus, or trace elements, etc?

That hawkins and the purple coral below it are awesome! Is the first pick a pearlberry?

No doubt you have some good color. Can you tell us if the corals were like that before going into the tank? Did color stay the same or improve? What additives have you been using? Do you feel they have helped with color? Specifically what additives do you feel help the most? Please give us the details!! = ) And more pics! We love pics!!

I a surprised there is no mention of zeo spur, this is probably the most powerful zeo product. It can turn a muddy milli bright orange, it works by minimizing the zoos, so be careful it can be dangerous. But it really is one of the best addatives there is.
