Best Metal Halide Reflectors?

Yeah on that wide and deepmof a tank you will need to run the Cozumel reflectors with a 400w. Pick any of the bulbs suggested as all arw great and it comes down to personal choice really since all have been proven performers. Radium would be my first choice Crystal 17.5k would be my second.

ever get over to Ohio. Reefstystems has a bunch of used lumenarc larges (22x22x9) or something along those lines.

This is the absolute best solution if you are set with only running 4 halides. They will adequately cover the 4' width. There is no better reflector tested.

My second recommendation would be the coralvue lumenbrite however, they would need to be mounted higher to get adequate spread.

My third choice would be the Hamilton. None are poor choices, but the lumenmax has a wider and more even spread as well as used a superior aluminum reflective material.

Lumenarc's not lumenmax. Lumenmax were spotlights, one of the worst reflectors I ever used to try and spread light. The hamiltons are like the lumenarcs. The coralvues are good reflectors but they are also spotlights. You have to raise them up but since they are so focused you would have a hard time even with larges to get spread for a 4' tank.

You do understand that you are confusing the lumenmax and the lumenmax elite?

As for the coralvue reflectors (the large not the mini) I clearly stated that they have to be mounted high to get that spread.

You're correct. But the reason I was thinking this was that I am pretty sure the Lumenmax Large reflectors have been discontinued for a while. Then they got out of the hobby completely but you could still get elites from random places...

The largest tank I would run a Lumenbrite on would be 3' wide. They are great reflectors but focus the light so well that as you raise them they don't spread out so much, they just lose intensity as light spills away. Here is a screenshot from advanced aquarist showing what I am talking about.

Hamilton is just about the only company I am aware of making large square large spread reflectors. At 4' its tough to get sps growing light out at the edges with any reflector, the large spreading of the Hamilton will give you a good shot.

I ran one of the 22/22/9 reflectors on my cube. 48/48/24 and it worked pretty good. I ran a single 400, but did recently switch to 2 250 bulbs in the same reflectors.
