Best seahorse ever passed away...how to dry out and preserve him??

Tank Tinkerer
We had the coolest Hippo reidii, which was about 5 inches tall. It had orange colors with brown accents. He unfortunately got adema and passed away before I identified the disease and could get the Diamox I needed.

I have a great seashell collection and was wondering how I can preserve him for the collection. After he passed away, I took him from the tank and put him in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. Now what do I do?

We usually put some salt in a dish and lay the SH on top of the salt. We place the dish in a larger dish of water so there is an "anti ant moat" around the SH. Then sit the whole thing in the sun for awhile (be sure to keep the moat topped-up). You can flip the SH over a couple of times during the process if you like to speed the drying process.

Once the SH is dry, you can spray it with polyurethane to further preserve it if you like.

I just let mine air dry. Although I'm not sure that It'll retain the cool colors. Might be kinda neat after he dries to put him in a shadow box with a picture of him while he was alive...

Have u guys ever tried using that clear resin to preserve them? That might keep their colors too n u can out the sh in a certain shape n pour the resin.

I dont know what its called but your local art store might have it.
I've seen pretty cool scorpions preserved like these. :)

They all turn brown.
