Country Critters!!!!!!!!!

Must be an employee of CC cause unless you like being robbed Its the last place I would shop

no i dont work their...their prices are really high but its worth it...theyve got the best quality and biggest selection

True, the have the biggest selection on Long Island, but their prices are a bit high. There are much better bargains to be found. The internet is a wonderful tool.;)
Highest Quality? Last time I was there I saw nudi's on some of their Zoanthids. Not only is that poor quality, but it would wipe out an existing collection in someones tank.

You are right though, they are light years beyond most stores on the island, that needs to change.

Someplace more expensive than CC, that seems impossible. Five or so years ago CC had the nicest and rarest types of corals. They have color morphs that we only dreamed of seeing. They charged a premium for this stuff and it was worth it if you had the money. That said, they are the most overpriced store I have ever seen. every thing in there is over the top. Dry goods and common livestock would make you keel over and grab your chest. As the saying goes" It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to buy there."
The internet has caught up with them and those rare corals are now available.
Stick with PW and AH and you will not need to take out a second mortgage

I will say that they (cc) still have one of the largest and most diverse selections of reef fishes.
They are overpriced, but you'll find the fish you're looking for there.

On that note, it would be nice to see them come down in price and be more competitive. Because 0% of 0 sales is still 0.
They'd be better off dropping the prices and selling more. Because these animals have a limited life span in store aquriums.

I wonder if any of the employees read this? If yes, tell Steve to lower his prices, he'll get a lot more business.

Not really they must be selling or how would they be in business as long as they have.

Why drop your prices if you're making money and have a following.

I was in there once and they said the guys on RC are just cheap, we don't need them there plenty of customers that have money to spend without being chisilers.

I walked out, and only go there when I'm in the area just to look.

reefly,
yup, you're right. They're selling, but like most pet shops they make up their losses selling dry goods (mainly dog food).

I also know that they think RC people are cheap. and for the most part, yes we are. But it's only because we're used to getting deals from other reefers.

Now, if they were smart, they'd appeal to the cheapos and the big spenders. Kind of like Toyota and Lexus.

At least, the last time I was in San Diego, that's how they do it there. There were stores that had corals for $20 and corals for $2K. This was almost every store. These stores had a very mixed crowd of people and they were all spending money.;)

Trust me, it isn't the dog food that makes money. It's the collars, leashes, treats and other such stuff that makes money. Why do you thinks most stores put that food in the back and make you walk through the store to get it ;) If a shop put a typical mark up on dog food, that 40 lb bag of Nutro would be selling for around $80 :eek2:

Well, I've been corrected. Even though I know a pet store owner that said that's where he makes his money. Whatever, right?

It's funny how we're talking about coral prices and at the same time across the country, someone on another post is wondering why LFS's don't get the full picture and start fragging?
The same full colony that one LFS sells for $80 could be worth $160 if they fragged it. Plus, more people would buy the frags at $40 each, then the full colony at $80. Go figure.

It's one of those funny things. Volume wise, yes dog food accounts for the most gross $ in most general Pet stores. However, once you look at the margin when your pricing competively with places like Petco, Petsmart, and Petland, your doing a lot of work with very little actual profit if no one is buying the high margin items like dog biscuits.

Ahh, the good ol' chop shop routing. The only way to do high volume and high profit frag sales ;) Granted it does make the colony go futher.
