Best stores on the island

I have some free time today and I want to go to a good lfs. What's the best place to go to in terms of large reef selection?

none......... truthfully have ever made me say wow besides country critters. and their prices are kind of above my head.

sometimes pet stop in huntington has good stuff, but it is kinda hit or miss, Fishy inc is also supposed to be good but the only time I was ever there they were under renovation

aqua hut in coram is spotty, but sometimes has great LPS - and at good prices.
Pets warehouse has a pretty big selection. I think biggest I have seen on the island. Country Critters makes you happy about the values you have gotten everywhere else : )

Aqua hut and Fishy Inc. has LPS, Polyps, and Mushrooms for great prices.
Country critters and Pets warehouse have the best selection but the prices are high. Be careful about flatworms if you buy from CC. CC occasionally has interesting or rarer things you can get as a frag; they also have decent "bulk buy" like instead of a 19.99 frag you can buy 4 for 15 apiece. Magic Isle in Centereach has a limited selection softies and LPS, a bit high. I haven't seen Suffolk CountyFish & Reef yet..

$40 for a blood shrimp.
Ive had lobster dinner cheaper;)

Although they are jumbo, the fire shrimp are not that price?

Hobbyists should understand that specimens from different locations do not cost the same.

As an example a fish/invert from Bali or Sri Lanka can easily cost 5 times the amount of the same fish from the Philippines.

Some may not see the difference when looking at one fish on its own, but putting the fish side by side the difference is readily apparent.

So when comparing fish/inverts you need to know the country of origin, in fact not all stores are aware of the origin of their fish.

You have to compare apples to apples; our fish are NOT imported from Philippines.

It kills me to agree with Bob ;)

But remember with livestock, cheap does not always equal a good value. Reminds me of a story from many years ago when I was looking at a particular wholesalers price list. He had two Coral Beauty's on the list for two very different prices. One dirt cheap and the other a bit pricy. Naturally I asked him what was up with that, he just winked and said "what do you think". So I ordered the more expensive one and asked him why he bothered with the cyanide caught junk. His reply was that too many people just wanted cheap.

Thanks Bill,

We have that choice, we can easily import cheap stock, cheap (cyanide) fish/inverts is not keeping the customers best interest in mind.

The coral beauty is a great example of what I was referring to, we can sell the PI coral beauty for $7.99 but youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll need to buy a casket for each one ;)

Goto PW and see their livestock then goto Fishtown and see their livestock and prices.. and you'll understand the differences.

Are you saying that as a positive or negative about PW? Isn't Fishtown more or less in the same category as AquaHut as far as their livestock?
