Best way to remove carpet anemone?

Hey guys,

I have decided to sell my green carpet anemone (s. haddoni). I have decided that I want a bit more space in my 20 gallon reef, and want it to go to a bigger home. Quick question, since it seems to be half on rock and half on the sand, what is the best way to remove it, without having to take up all the rocks and so on? BTW, he will be replaced by a BTA.

That didnt last long! The best way is to fill in sand bed to find the foot and just use your nail to help it release from the bottom of tank from where it is attached! Good luck

Take your time, and I suggest wearing a glove -- otherwise the Haddoni will end up sticking to your hand.

Try to dig under the sand and slowly try to pry up its foot. But be very careful, can easily poke your finger into the oral disc.

Thanks for the info! One thing real fast, what do you mean I can poke into the oral disc. Isn't the oral disk the mouth, or the actualy "flat part" or "top" of the anemone? Also, would it help to point a powerhead it as is used to remove BTA's ad other similar anemones?

Was thinking about the actual oral disc, above the foot, since yours is attached to both the bottom of the tank and a rock. Because they attach so strongly it is easy to damage them -- it happened to me.

You can try pointing a powerhead at it, but when I have moved my powerheads it caused them to move, but with the foot still attached to the bottom glass.

You could use a credit card just slip it in between the glass and the foot.

I know you said you didn't want to, but If you are not shipping it I would suggest thinking about selling the rock that its on with it... assuming there is nothing else on the rock with it that you want to keep. Thats how I purchased my blue haddoni and its been the easiest so far for the owner as well as the anemone. If you try and pull it off you run a real good risk of tearing the foot which could lead to an infection since you are putting it in a new tank as well as majorly stressing it out. just a suggestion
