Beta of new Apex firmware now available!

So I downloaded last night configured all my tiles and got my webcam working.

Today everything was good.

At 1am PST I go to check the Apex and all my tile settings are gone and reverted to default. Lost the tile layout, the tiles I had chosen and the webcam.

Power Failure Problem

Power Failure Problem

I installed the new firmware yesterday and was going to post it's all working great, but this morning the current Nor'easter took out our power, and the Apex has NOT recognized the power failure. Main pumps are killing my battery backup, so I had to turn them off manually. Lucky I'm home.

Everyone that is using POWER FAILURE to turn equipment off should check to see if the beta firmware is working correctly. Mine is not.

Side note, it wold be nice if the dashboard could also indicate the current status of main power.

cheers,

So far I love the new look. Three things that I would like to see if possible are:

1) Change of color indicating outlet state.
2) Sliders to manually change the output voltage of the variable speed ports. This would help a lot with LED setups.
3) Now that we can see switch states it would be great if we could rename the switches. It's hard to remember which switch is for what with the standard switch naming. Especially when a lot of switches are used.

Other than that I would like to let the guys at Neptune know that they have done a great job with this be update.

Will the probes need re-calibration if updating firmware, like previous versions?

Changing firmware does not affect probe calibrations. Never has. Moving probes between modules will cause you to recalibrate but not firmware updates.

Really like idea 2!

Interesting.... Followed instructions, the updater said the upload to apex completed for both firmware and webpages. Everything is hardwired, including my laptop. Firewall and virusscan disabled. I cleared browser cache and rebooted the apex.

When I access the apex, it still has the old screens. Nothing has changed. I always use Chrome, tried with IE and had same results. Tried this twice with same results.

What am I doing wrong here?

I only say this because I made this mistake... Did you use the download links in the top of the firmware quick instructions? They are for the older version. The links you want are in the bottom of the beta notice. Note the version number.

Thanks! That looks to be exactly what the issue is. The link in the instructions brings you to 4.12 where this change is version 4.20.

Thanks again.

Does the camera interface support PTZ cameras?

You can't control cameras from within the camera tile at this time. That requires the manufacturer's software since there's no standards on tilt, pan and zoom and right now there's no way to embed an application into the tile, only a URL.

So what is the timeframe on the graphs? And is it possible to change that timeframe?

The dashboard graphs time frame is today since midnight. No, you can't alter that.

im not seeing any graph in my temperature box on the main status page, any one else having this issue?

Look at your data log web page. Do you see data for today? Does it look correct?

Here's a shot of my "current dashboard".

may be a little off topic.. but how do you have a graph showing your Salinity? Is there a probe for that? I'd love to see that data for my tank..

Yes, the PM2 is a salinity module.

Browser version?

The new webpage is not compatible with IE 10 currently and it was too late in the product cycle for Neptune to fix it before the beta.

I'm really loving the look of the new firmware, with one big (literally) exception. Disclosure: I've not yet installed the new beta pending more info on stability, reliability and if it wipes out previous programming. I'm basing comments on the screenshots I've seen so far.

The huge banner, slogan and the big Apex logo at the top of the screen takes up way too much space for just a branding function. We already own the unit and know who Neptune is, so a big logo, the slogan and an Apex logo are redundant, and frankly likely a bit grating after a while. It may be great for promotional pics, but day to day in a private users hands, I don't see the functionality (nor aesthetic) advantage.

Most importantly, that extra space can be used to add another panel or tile. It also takes up less bandwidth if browsing from a mobile/remote connection, and if using a mobile browser (not an app), screen real estate is at a premium.

Even an option to disable the banners and logos would be nice, if Neptune really wants to keep the branding so visible. If the designers really insist on a branding, then maybe a small "N" logo at the top left kinda like how Apple does the little upper left Apple logo (or, the lower left Windows taskbar icon) would work.
