BIG mistake! Now what to do...

Unfortunatley its not going to be in-wall. If it was there would be no issues with the Chi. "She is by all accounts a reasonable person" Obviously you havent met Cindy!!! Yeah I think the moc up with PVC might be a better idea and less ugly.

My bad, I re-read your original post and saw that I am indeed confused. Happens alot. Just because you don't find her reasonable doesn't mean she isn't a reasonable person, lol. Gotta give another lady the benefit of the doubt there. I don't think the mock up material matters, she will understand it only represents the size. Or..... since she wouldn't have a problem with an in-wall, would that be an option?

:D
Yeah, I've met her and I agree, Cindy seems very reasonable, so be patient and work within her comfort parameters to help her see the good in it.

Of course I'm kidding :) She's a very sweet, considerate person and keeps me in line. I'm very lucky to have her

NOW LET ME PUT MY REEF WHERE I WANT!!!

Hmmm times I've given in to her... hmmmmm.... hmmm Well I might be in trouble...

I guess I will have to be REALLY SWEET to her for a while and then say "oh honey, about the new tank... Can I please put it there?"

She's big into Fun-Shui.. She says it will disturb the Chi in our house... Damn Asians.. ;) I thought water was a good thing.. I'm going to have to read up on this Fun-shui thing and come up with a compelling arguement.

My wife is all into that as well.
I believe that it is VERY important to have a water feature in the SE corner of your home. At least that is what she told me...
I had to build a fountain just for that purpose.

Luckily it was as easy as slapping a used Rio 1400 (It was heating up the tank by almost 10 degrees) into a large pot, adding some copper tubing, and then a few bags of crushed rock to cover the pump. Whole thing cost me maybe $5, and I was able to convince her that the money we saved over a store-bought fountain should be mine to use on more tank stuff.
:bum:

Well if she's very Fung Shue or whatever then tell her the rest of the room needs to be worked around that. I mean hey it's water! That's an "element"... move the couches around, put candles in corners, hang a dead yak from the ceil... wait that's something else.. but yeah, don't have her think of the new tank as just a new object in the room, have her think that it's also time to redecorate/rearrange the rest of the room/house!

Oh and I'm all for a large cardboard mock up of the tank.

If you do a cardboard mock-up, go to Petco or wherever and buy some of the tank background stuff to simulate the actual tank vs the stand. I'm sure that it will look a lot better than having a plain old box in there.

Yeah, it may cost a little more (like $10-$20?) but if she says yes, then I'm sure it is all worth it.

show her a thread of Inwall tanks, with really nice matching trim, and talk about letting her pick the colours to paint the walls.

Bring up how much quieter it will be in the house, when the tank is located in another room...and there is NO chance of it flooding in a visible room and ruining her new hard wood floors you gonna install when you do the room remodel for the whole in the wall your going to place for the tank.

..that or just send her to a Two Week seminar on funcshwai (sp), and try to get it done before she gets home ;)

Well I would explain to her that the load of the new tank would cause undo stress on the floor if it was in the middle of the room, so this is the reason you wanted on the wall you do. If that fails to convince her, then send he off for a weekend with the girls, set the tank where you want and beg for forgiveness when she gets back.lol.

Who cares what she says? Its your tank, so you should put it where you want it. I'm sure she has the rest of the house conformed to how she wants it.

My fiance decorates the whole house, but my tank goes where I want it and she has to work around that.

Sometimes you just have to where the pants.

Especially when you show up to court. Maybe the judge will let you keep half!

Send her to like Las Vegas for the weekend and will she is gone just get the tank installes and then tell her it is to late to take it back.

This thread is hilarious! I know EXACTLY what look you were talking about when you showed her the dimensions of your new tank! The only thing that usually works for me in a situation like this is to completely drop the idea for now, be really nice and sweet and helpful for like a week or two, then wait for her to be in a really good mood about something and bring it up again after that. Presents help, doing things with her you usually don't like to do will help (like shopping for pillows or shoes or something?) I think she'll eventually give in if shes not absolutely 100% against it now. Good luck!

I think you should do a cardboard cut out. The thing of it is, that if you can get her excited about it then all the little bumps in the road will go a lot more smoothly.

Check out this thread, he's done a 600g display with other tanks in the garage. He made the tank free standing and then built a false wall in front of it.

There are before and after pics on p. 39, but lots of good pics throughout.

send her somewhere for the weekend and buy the tank make sure its delivered and setup.Lie about the cost but just make sure it looks nice so when she has a s hit fit at least you still have the tank to look at.If she is still mad at the end just tell her it was a dumb thing to do and next time you will ask her approval before you buy.Once the tank is in the house its not going to leave. Then tell her how much you love her and you will forever be in love with her and the reef tank.So happily ever after(this will be a story book ending.I see it!!!)

You guys are attacking this problem like reefers. You need to pull the romance card on this one. Flowers, nice dinner, few drinks, some chocolate dipped strawberries. I've leave the rest to your imagination.....
