Fish can learn. It is possible to keep fish in a tank with haddoni without them becoming food. You just have to choose your fish wisely, keep them healthy, and give them plenty of room to avoid the anemone.

Also, provide night lighting. I have found that many (not all) fish casualties came when I had lights on a timer and the tank would be plunged into semi-darkness. Particularly new fish seemed to be more likely to be eaten because they didn't know to avoid it.

This is true. When I add new fish, I always pinch my haddoni, causing her to retract under the sand. This gives the fish a little time to calm down and get acquainted with its surroundings before the haddoni comes back out.
