Biggest tank on Reef Central? MÃ¥st Beautiful?

Just joe, from the pictures it seems like the majority of fish are tangs and anthias, is this an acurate observation?

And just when I thought my 20,000 gl aquarium was looking good...I'm going to Riverhead, the shrine of captive care, that's all there is to it.
But hey Reefers, what's going on here? How did we get so far into this thread without someone bringing up this 5,000gl home aquarium--maybe because the owner isn't a member of RC--I don't know.

Majority yes. There are still quite a few of other standard reef fish, and not limited to clowns, gobies and blennies, wrasses, triggers, getting into some angels recently, damsels, etc so lots of non obvious fish that are in and out of all the rockwork which I enjoy.
Its nice to see the damsels staking out their territory and other more natural behaviours.

JustJoe - do you own the whole museum?

No, I don't own it but did cofound it with one of the owners. I'm responsible for the tank layouts, design, life support design and building them, and now keeping everything swimming happily. We now have two owners and I couldn't ask to work with/for better people. They have been there all along, in the trenches doing all the dirty work to get the aquarium built, plus all its additions through the years.
So even though its a public aquarium, to me its the same feeling as setting my home tanks in the past since I/we designed and installed/ built everything in house and from the ground up.
The ultimate DIY for my lifetime for sure.

Thanks

Interuptus, juv emperator, regal, blue, blueface, flame, African flameback and I've had genicanthus in there from early on.
Most are behaving ok, we'll see how it goes but the tank is I hope well established now to handle some picking here and there. If not, they'll get pulled. I try to get as much food into them in throughout the day to minimize their picking. As long as the leave my lps alone, they can basically pick on anything they want.

That's a nice list of Angels. Hopefully my own Angel/Reef experiment works out well. Keep up the great work with that tank, it's truly a dream tank in every sense.

there must be an aquarium somewher in the world with a 1,000,000 gallon tank right>? /i think i heard about it...is it possible?

Thanks, I've seen some nice reef tanks with angels. They did only have sps and all was fine, very nice fish and very nice sps. No chance of any lps, shroons, etc but it was a nice look indeed.

There are several multi million gallon tanks, non are live coral tanks. There is a large tank at the Burger Zoo, I believe its over 200,000 gallons and its a live coral tank.
Georgia Aquarium just opened and has a reef based tank that is a mix of live and fiberglass corals that is advertised over 100,000 gallons, I don't recall the exact advertised gallonage.

My god Joe, you need to send those anthias to Jenny Craig!!! Simply outstanding. Hassan did an excellent job with the pictures and video. Finally he did something right LOL.............

Keep in mind that most of the fish pics are taken during a feeding time or when they think they are going to be fed, so they are all congregating in a smaller area near the feeding area. Normally they are spread much more evenly around the tank.

Hey Joe...

With that many Tangs, do you ever get fights? It looks as though you KIND OF took the same approach as cichlid owners. Stock the tank to the point where there is no need to fight because there just can't be 1 dominant Sohal / Vladmingi, ect... Is this accurate? Or is the tank so big that they simply have so much room that they all have their own space / home to be territorial with? Either way the tank is outstanding. Well done!
