Bio-load media calculator ?

Is there anything out there to somehow calculate how much biological media filtration is needed given water volume, number of fish/corals, and number of feedings per day?

How did they come up with the 1 lb of live-rock per 1 gallon water? Any scientific studies that supports that ?

I have live-rock, live-sand and just recently purchased a MarinePure brick, so I am just curious if there is a such thing as "too much" when it come to bio filtration.

No such thing as too much. Look at the ocean. I run over 200# of LR in my system with a 90g display and moderate stocking just for added stability. The one pound per gallon rule is better applied for aquascaping
and determining how much rock is needed to fill out a tank.

Im not a huge fan of artificial bio media but to each his own.

No, there is nothing scientific. And lbs/gallon doesn't really work, because different rock has different "density." In the olden days, Florida live rock was dense (like a lead brick), whereas some indo-pacific rock was light and porous by comparison.
