Biopellets

mbryant pm me I have plenty of the mesh for the mod your welcome to a couple of pcs to odo your mod.

let me find the link for the mod its easy. Only problem is it still gets clogged up. You need a big one like that octopus to keep the pellets in constant suspension or they clog together.

New reactor in action:D

Nice reactor Roman. I almost went with one of the vertex reactors as well. Looks like it keeps the pellets in a good motion.

I will be adding same reactor on my 40 gal tank. I will start with MJ 1200. Will post update in next few days:D

Nope, I won't. I did, but flow was very uneven. Octopus is on its way to go with those:D

what is the difference between the phosballs and biopellets? are they not doing the same thing? I have heard there is a theory that using several different brands could be beneficial as it may grow different types of bacteria. Any thoughts?

ive used several different types at this point in my modified TLF 150 phosban reactor its still clogging up, and doesn't really hold enough for the recommended amount at my water volume. It works great for the first couple days but eventually the pellets all goo together. Can anybody recommend a decent larger sized reactor at a reasonable price.

Coral vue has the best and I'll tell you from experience it really keeps them moving, there is no way these will clump. it's pictured earlier in the thread by gws76, we have the same one.

When I get home this evening, I'll post pics of the mod we did on the 140. The mod may not be needed. Ed suggested just sticking a small piece of live rock rubble in the screen cup. That may be enough weight to hold it down.

Here's the reason for the mod. The cup can be pushed up by the upflow in the reactor. When this happens, the flow will stop thru the reactor. In the pic, notice the cup is not sitting on the clear flange in the reactor tube.

Here's what we did to modify the screen cup. It's just acrylic rod that has been fused to the rim of the cup with weldon #4. This keeps the cup from being pushed up to high in the reactor. Basically the upflow should go thru the screen, then out over the top of the cup and between the lid, then thru the outflow.

Maybe in the future Coral Vue will come up with a fix for this problem.

Figured out a cone mod for the TLF reactors. Works much more efficently. Was having clumping issues but not anymore. Thanks for the info.
