Birdsnest

Because I am usually on a budget and prefer to get larger browned out corals rather than smaller still colored frags. I get suprised when they color up. Its really cool when you save one and it colors up, encrusts and takes off.

So my latest is a birdsnest that is in bad shape and is browned out.

I know there are rare varieties of birdsnest with unique colorations. See Atlantis Aquariums in Fremont web site.
But, is the standard "plain jane" Birdsnest pink? Because this one is real BROWN and hope it doesn't remain looking like a dead rosebush. I tried to research it, but everyone always shows pics of the pink ones, which leads me to wonder that is the only color they come in. With the exception of the few rarer colors morphs.....

there are certainly brown birdsnests. what temp are your lights? imo that goes a long way to turning something colors

U wanna make 3 color out of your pink birdsnest. Devide that pink, place the other half lower directly under the light . U will see . It will turn Yel. body, purple polyps, pink tips, Awesome;)

I have pink and green...but my green is coloring up right now. And it was white with white polyps. My pink one was brown before it colored up...but it had a pinkish tint to it.

I have the sucker on the bottom of the tank right now,75g. I am upgrading to 2-250's DEs w/2-96 PC actinic up from 150's. I am still acclimating the tank to the new lighing. The new setup had a bum bulb in in so I am only running one 250 right now. Because of the bum bulb I ordered a pair of 14K Ushos. Had some Phoenix on my 150's, but didn't like them.

I imagine I have enough light to color it up now. Flow is good, 3-820 Seios and the return probably has about 400gph or so at the nozzle. Added a phosban reactor recently and seeing good results, and other params are stable, low fish load. I was thinking of putting it towards the bottom....

But there are brown birdsnest you say? Would you say they are more common than a pink? I am trying to guess my odds that it may color up.

I was told that importers rarely/don't import naturally brown ones because they don't sell well. Besides, the colored ones do it on there own, so why bother...

I have seen a pink, green and blue birdsnest. I one that is the opposite of the green versions. Instead of being green polyps; mine has green branches with brown polyps. Kinda weird looking.

The pink birds nest I have is almost magenta in color and even has shades of green in it in my buddy's tank. Mine is just pure pink/magenta....I havent been able to get the green to come out in it like his, but it is certainly possible :P

Check it out! Awesome!

I have the "green" with purple polyps too - and it is pink with purple polyps (brighter pink higher up). I've never gotten that green - looks great though. What kind of lighting and distance is he using?

Dude, that is a sweet birdsnest!

Was it just plain pink when you got it or was it always that color?
