birth of 2 builds totaling 30k gallons

Woooo,...that is really tall. You can get the perspective now with the people and various tools in it. For me it would be cool to just sit and watch a "Water Fill" video. :p speaking of which,...how far out yet Andrew?

absolutely awesome! The first 30 secs or so it is hard to tell scale, and looks like regular tank!...

Then you start seeing stuff like the little buckets and sledge for comparison and realize its big as crap!

LOL 1:07 mark! :-)

Yalcin said it the best "I feel like I'm at the bottom of the ocean". This is awesome guys. Maybe some sps at the top of those arches?

Yes. All of you are right. Its not until you are I there can you gain perspective. The watwe is is going to be a little while yet but in a month or so we may do a fresh water leak and rinse test.

Premilove you know I won't be able to. Resisist sps in that tank!!! Just don't want to be a slave to this tank worrying about 200lbs of gfo changes for phosphates etc.

Allmost I think somewhere in the thread I may have described flow plans in terms of anount of outlets and closed loop. I did not show pics of pumps yet.

Amazing..

Can we take up a collection to get a webcam on the build running 24/7. Maybe 4-5 just to give plenty of coverage. I would probably pay for one myself lol.

Mr c I wish I had the time and patience and video know how. Doing my best to update each milestone. Dealing with maintenance on ordinary basis with climbing ladders and getting in the tank with air compression and working under water and crawling on cat walk will be even more interesting. I'm sure there wil be many challenges ahead we didn't think of

Isnt a tank that size though self sustaining to a point? Do aquariums use GFO or something in their big tanks?

I know that Joe at Atlantis drips lathium chloride to reduce phosphate. Its easier if done right than changing gfo. But a closed system is a closed system. Still have to deal with same issues of nutrients and nitrates.

We have had great luck with a large biopellet reactor on a 6000 gallon fish only. Justin at Bermuda built our system as well and we maintain nitrates in the single digits consistently. That combined with a great skimmer and 12 filter socks changed a couple times a week makes for a system that could support corals if we really wanted it to. Had to treat the tank a couple of times with chloroquine phosphate for ich outbreaks early on which raised phosphate levels, but lanthanum drip combined with biopellets brought that back down.

Wow! Thank you sir for letting me live my ultimate dream thru you. This is really just mind blowing to see everything come together and how well thought out everything is. I guess your motto is "why go to the zoo or aquarium when you can go downstairs". not sure if you have kids or nieces and nephews but I'm sure they will love coming to your house to see this! Heck I'm 30 and I'm feeling like a kid again

Dmorty. I'm sure I'll be doing school tours. But my girls are off to college and not really that interested. My future step kids a bit more. But who knows until this is built and they go in and swim with fish and regulator and mask. Could change everything

Yeah girls and most women in general aren't as into this as men are, kind of like cars and watches and those sorts of things. I saw snow in one of the earlier pictures so I'm assuming you live in the east or Midwest. I would make the trip to see this when it is up and running to your expectations in a heartbeat. Would love to pick your brain about all of the logistics and setup of such a setup. Truly a dream, literally you are doing what I always tell my wife... "If we win the mega millions" trouble is we don't play the lottery so I will live thru this thread you started. Thankfully you are documenting this very well for people like me. Truly AMAZING

I'll be learning as I go along here also. Big difference in equipment between 1500 gallons now and 30k. Most nervous about getting in and out of tank and crawling on cat walks and just in general about this thing consuming my life.
