I must chime in. This is something Im an expert at. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS " A LITTLE TO MUCH CLEAVAGE"............
Thank you for excepting me for who I am.....

No I do not think i am a hypocrite. Originally I am from the South, deep south as in back woods Alabama and Mississippi then spending 20 years in New Jersey before moving here in 04. Maybe it has something to do with the way I was brought up, I do not know.

As for the cleavage, I am not really a breast man, more of a thigh man.

:eek1:

I don't think 75 is a hypocrite, he just doesn't come across that way, besides he likes chicken.

Quoted for the Truth!

It's natural to stereotype. It's not a good or bad thing (per se) it's just how we make sense of and categorize the world around us.

And everyone does it to some degree or another. (although we may not be aware of or even admit it).

Someone who works with the public - especially in retail - is best served to be aware of this fact and take it into consideration.

Because the bottom line is that you only get 1 chance to make a first impression. In a saturated market like Rochester, that impression needs to be good & the clothing is not the impression that an LFS wants to leave on a person. You want the quality of your stock or knowledge of your sales staff to stand out.

if this guy decided to send you a PERSONAL e-mail it is very rude to display a message ment for just you.
Trashing the way this guy handles things is very childish and even worse to keep spreading your negative opinion about how U think of him. Having a educated opinon is one thing but down talking someone is not a opinion it is a form of harrasment and yes his responce might of been a bit much but put your self in his shoes. At this point its prob past your capability of understanding him. This topic of one store being better then the other has been discused over and over again and turns into childish flamming. I know a couple other stores that sell nice stuff that give URS no chance because of how JUDGEMENTAL this group can be at times. Why cant people just be happy that there is another store that will cater to your hobby? and keep your negative opinions to yourself....there is a way of giving your point of view without offending people.....or another approach to keep the drama from happening is a old leason "if you have nothing to say dont say anything at all".....did he come on here to post how rude your comment was ? NOPE ....he kept it to a personal email instead of starting a war and creating pointless drama....

It may be a personal email, but there's little difference to posting it on here or talking about it around the poker table some night. Given this is the 21st century, he may have wanted to think things through before sending out an email that can easily be copied/pasted. I would love sometimes to comment on customers and things they've said/done, but being in the real world I know it can get back to me in some way or another so I just let it go. It's part of customer service and being in business with the public.

There's many ways to take what he said as well. Given he said the store itself wasn't too bad, anyone who reads could also have the mindset when they walk in (the store sounds ok and i'll check it out, besides how bad could his appearance) That's actually what my mindset is at this point. I won't be shocked by appearance when i get there and can then focus on the storefront/livestock.

I think that there are certain levels of customer service that need to be addressed. If The Ocean is just starting out, IMO it would have been best for the kid to keep his comments (or E-mail) to himself, especially if they're telling off a person that frequents a public board. If a little criticism, whether positive or negative can't be tolerated, you shouldn't be in retail. I also agree that a warning of this kind of response is much needed and appreciated. It only paints a picture of the level of response you will encounter if you have when you have a negative experience with something purchased there.

However, when there are assumptions made on the appearance of a person, or the age of a person, and you make those statements on a public forum, you are only asking for a negative response. I believe that people need to stop playing follow the leader and use their own judgement on whether or not you are going to support a business. This is just my thought on the matter, take it or leave it. ;-)

private stuff should stay private this thread dosen't belong on reef central at all.

Isn't that kind of hypocritical? You both read this private email and then posted about it in the thread. If it was that private, wouldn't have you just ignored it?

yeah jay i can see what your saying but seems this whole thread could of been avoided . I think I read this guy is 19? well to start your buisness at that age is impressive and should be given some room for error before jumping down his back. He is still learning everything and will take some time for him to really take off and get respect with three top notch marine shops around as competition. So long as things are fair and decent priced I really have no complaints when it comes to pet stores everyone does things diff. I deff bite my lip when I see anemones under horrible lighting mouths hangin open and still up for sale.... It's deff not right to come here and point that stuff out with store names involved...I second that on follow the leader all the stores have ups and downs and good deals just have to get out there and shop around.

The ocean is out of line with that comment. However 75 you were out of line with the headshop remark. Suggesting someone is a druggy based on apperance is not the right thing to do. I personally think this kid has a lot to learn. His comments on Carpet anenomes was off. But I can't condone what I see as making fun of him by people who are suposed to be supportive of buisnesses that provide us with these beautiful eco-systems. To have a problem with his knowledge or especially his cuctomer service is one thing apperance is different.

BTW I know what Kent is talking about. Not long ago someone posted a link to that thread and I read through it...Pretty Funny.

Scott

PS I didn't intend this thread to go like this when it started. I was trying to drum up support for small buisness

Everyone should cool thier jets! Give 75 a break, he was giving his opinion, what we can't do that anymore? I don't get that?

I, for one, am glad for a report on the ocean. I have taken all of the feedback, and I will visit it, perhaps. If it's a good store with good practices (in question because of the email) and good prices I will purchase from it.

I now I know the guy is somewhat freaky looking, so what? I also know that he can't handle any criticism, at 19 I couldn't either. I'll cut some slack there. Although, I do have some caution with a 19 year old just from a lack of experience standpoint, but I'm will to check it out.

75 I applaud your gumption.

Agreed that this thread has run it's course. Visit the LFS and judge for yourself.
