Black and White percs

I'm getting a pair of black and white percs in a few weeks, and I have a few questions.

Is the information about Ocellaris clowns the same as for B&W clowns, or is there something markedly different about them?

How old do they have to be when they first might start to breed?

What sorts of food are best for them? Does the type of food I feed them affect their colour like in other fish?

Thanks

The fish you refer to as a black percula is most likely a black and white ocellaris. Same care applies as the ocellaris clownfish accept they are more difficult to breed. I feed my pair formula foods, mysis, brine, flake, and pellets.

LFS's also call black saddleback clownfish black perculas.

LOL. That's alot of questions.

The fish you are getting are most likely ocellaris not perculas. For some reason allot of LFS's are listing black ocellaris as black perculas. Real "black" perculas are called onyx and have more orange on them than black ocellaris do.

The black and white ocellaris are the same as orange ocellaris. They're just from different areas and are different colors.

The earliest I've heard of them breeding is around a year. I've never had a pair that young breed though.

They are omnivores, so it's important to provide them with a mixed diet. Mine get frozen mysis, krill, formula one, algae that grows in the tank, and what ever else I feel like throwing in there. Their color is effected by diet.

I feed mine randomly rotating mysis shrimp, flakes and pellets and they have gotten twice as bright as they were when I bought them from the LFS.

how are black ocellaris more difficult to breed? there exactly the same as a regular ocellaris just a diff. color. there no harder to breed then the regular ones.

I have a pair of orange occs and a pair of black and white occs. In terms of care, the two pairs are no different. In terms of aggression however, the orange ones are mellow as, while the black female is crazy mean while the black male seems to love punishment. In saying that, all clowns (and all fish) are different. You'll love them either way

Black ocellaris IMO as well as the opinion of many breeders out their
"can be" more difficult to get started breeding wise than regular ocellaris. They may be the "same fish" and I say that loosely as I am beginning to have my doubts, but they are in no way the exact same breeding wise as orange ocellaris. They may be very similar in morphology but I would be hesitant to call them the exact same fish.

The reason for their difficult in breeding as opposed to oranges is not entirely clear as far as I am aware but it can take quite a bit longer for a black pair to start laying as opposed to an orange pair.

They are more difficult to breed. They are not "exactly" the same as regular Ocellaris. They aren't as likely to spawn, They are more likely to eat the eggs, survival rates are typically much lower. A GOOD breeding pair is hard to find.

I have black and whites it took a year and 7 months for them to start laying eggs from the time I got them they where about 1 inch when i got them. I have to remove the rock where they lay their eggs on the seventh night or they eat there eggs well my leopard wrasses help. they chased my anthias out of the tank earlier today I had to put the screens back on after chasing it across the floor glad I was down here today.
