Black Maroon Clownfish?

How common, if at all, are black maroon clownfish? I was making the rounds at my parents place over Thanksgiving and one of the LFS's had a solo maroon clown, but it was jet black. The tank didn't have the greatest lighting, so it could just have been a really dark Maroon. Searching online I found some more royal purple'ish Maroon's, but this guy (or girl probably, good 4" big), was definitely a deep black. Very, very similar to a McCullochi's black coloring. She had all 3 stripes, and at 4" the stripes were quite thin. I'm almost not an idiot and can tell it wasn't a B&W occelaris. :p Definitely Premnas biaculeatus.

Lemme know if it's something worth investigating. I could always try to send my parents back to sneak pic (which I didn't think to take at the time :hammer: ).

Probably very very dark...the females especially tend to darken up as they mature.

One of the LFS near me had a tomato clown that was so dark it looked black for the longest time...no one wanted to buy the poor girl (I nearly did every time I was in there...I've always loved tomato clowns, but sadly I had nowhere to house it long term.)

Some maroons are so dark they look black in certain lighting.

There is a major breeder that has "Black" maroons. Not sure when they will available, and its not ORA.

Mine has gotten darker over the years and much meaner too.

Thanks for posting everyone. Yea, she was very close to Jeff's pic (though a white stripe, not a GSM).

Interesting LA, those should be really pretty. Do you know if they were gold or whtie striped? That was the stunning part of the one I saw, the contrast with the sharp very vibrant white stripes and black'ish body.

I don't know. It is C-Quest doing it. I remember Bill Addison once telling me he had one HUGE pair of maroons that laid such big nests that he got 8,000 fish out of one big nest.
