Black Widow syndrome - Male Clown is now Dead :(

Well I noticed some odd behaviour coming from my mated clowns.
After this last spawning, the female started beating on the male quite a bit and when I woke up yesterday morning, the male looked like he had just been in a prize fight.
As of this morning, he is now passed on to the great sewer in the sky.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before?

Yes. It occurs more often with a few species, but it is not unheard of for a female to push the male too hard.
