Blackthunda77's 80Gal Shallow Reef Build

Thanks guys, it been a while since i updated the thread. Probably cuz i havent done much. Been busy with house stuff and MACNA and to top it off, i didnt even get a chance to get anything for the tank from MACNA, lol. Go Figure. I did set up the Jebao wp25 on the tank, i might post a pic of that and maybe a short vid in case anyone is interested. Im very happy with the WP25, THUS FAR. So much so that i ordered another one. Its not a Vortech, but for $52 shipped on a group buy, you have to be a fool to not recognize the potential of these pumps. I dont want to start a flame war about MP vs WP but if any of you have tried one you know what i mean.

If anyone wants to try the second WP25 i ordered for a couple days once i receive it your more than welcome to test it out, im not lacking for flow at the moment. lol. I bought it mainly in preparation for a larger build down the road.

Hurricaneredbone - i have not done any recent videos but now that i think about it its about time to do one, i might just have to dust off the GoPro one day this week.

hey john- i would love to see one of ur videos showing this pump. im very curiuos and agree for thr price its a sweet deal.

bring out those awesome videos of urs please.

Here you go guys, a quick video taken on my phone. This is JUST the WP25 running. You can see the surface waves it creates as well as the mid and lower level current in the tank. Pay attention to the Duncans, frogspawn and the acans. Also take into consideration the acans are on the very opposite side and corner of the WP25.

BTW, sorry for the semi cloudy water. I had to wipe off the glass before shooting the video. Tanks been a bit neglected lately.

On a side note, ive been running the wp25 by itself since last night, no vortech. Quite happy with it. Doesnt have all the nice modes the vortech has, but with a cheap cable and some coding in my APEX i can take care of that as well. :)

Im scared to put mine in wave mode, and I dont have a rimless. Crazy flow.

Do I see a future FS vortech thread? lol

First off, beautiful tank! I loved reading through this thread, lots of information to use in my next build. I'll likely be going with a tank the same dimensions, maybe 18" high instead. I'm currently playing with the idea of getting a tank made by Miracles Aquariums just trying to decide on my final dimensions. Would you say your stock list is quite heavy or that you feel there is still more room? Last time you posted your stock list I believe there was around 14 or so fish. I'm just trying to get ideas on stocking this tank :)

Secondly, that most recent video you posted should come with a warning because I almost ****ed myself when your phone vibrated and made a sound. Perhaps my volume is just too loud though haha

HAHAH, i forgot about that, yea, i guess i got an email while i was filming. LOLOLOL Scared the crap outta me too. Thanks for the compliments though.

In regards to the fish, i have mostly pretty small, docile fish for the most part.

5 cardinals
2 firefish
1 barred goby
1 Leopard Wrasse
2 Skunk Clowns
1 Sargassum Trigger (eats the most)

I think thats 12 total now. Am i missing anyone?

Solarensis went carpet surfing a couple months back. I cleaned the tank, left the top off for a couple hours, and well, you know the rest...

I think my bio load is ok. Not dealing with too much bad algae or nitrates. Just a bit but thats because im not doing water changes as frequently as i should. Maybe once every month or 2. Been busy with other "life" issues so tank is not in tip top shape at the moment.

Awesome Setup Dude! I'm looking to replace my 90 gallon too at some point since I see a little salt creep forming at the bottom left frame corner. What I really like is being able to look down on my corals with one of those viewing windows. Right now i'm researching the same Evergrow lights but the IT2040 Full Spectrums for adjustability and the WP25 too.

Keep it up - wished I had access to all the various corals in your area. :)

Nice video.. Is your apex controlling your wp25? Meaning are you able to change to different modes via the apex?

nice tank. that tank I have been eying for awhile but have no time for it at the moment.

Thanks, yea, i kept an eye on it for a while as well but it was actually the 60 gal version. I didnt know they had the 80 gal 16" version till someone told me. Im glad i got the 80. Im still having some issues with some corals getting too much light. With the 12" version in think i would have been frying some of them.

Thanks. Yea im really happy with the wp25. Im waiting on my other one to come in. I just sold my mp40 off as i wasnt using it and needed some $$ for tools for the new house, lol. Not that i minded the noise all that much as you get used to it but im still getting used to the tank being almost completely silent now without the vortechs ramping up and down.

Good job John. So the Vortech was off during that video?

If yes, how do you order one of these jeabos?

Yes Eddie, the vortechs were off at that time, in fact they have been off since filming that video and is now in my trunk as im meeting up with Jurg this evening. Hes the one that bought it from under you, lol :)

You can get the pumps from fish-street.com, but id look for a group buy so that you get it cheaper and save on shipping. Try posting in here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2329425&page=6 there is usually 1-2 people that change their mind and are willing to sell the pumps off to someone else. If the person is on the west coast i can pick it up for you when im out there. Or if you want, i can come over with my new one when it arrives and i can hook it up in your tank so that you can test it out so you can see if you like it or not. LMK.

John, how is the search for the new tank going?

Armando, Im still looking. Seems like me dream dimensions are not gonna happen unless i do a custom build. I have now started to look at standard 220 and 265s. The marineland 300DD are still too few and far between, and the people who are selling them are usually selling them at retail or close to it, and with the stand and canopy, which i dont need.

At the moment, no i am not. I havent had the chance to get the cables to do so but that's next on my list. At the moment though, i have a nice pulse set up and its giving me a nice steady rocking motion throughout the tank.

New arrival...

I know these guys are finicky, and need a bigger tank, but I couldn't pass it up. Marine net inc had a killer deal on them. Plus they are already eating from the store. Mine is eating Mysis, blood worms and rogggers food. Trying to get him to acknowledge the nori on the clip. I'm sure he will eventually. I dipped it as per instructions with the fish stop dip we got at macna. No ich on him as of yet and more importantly, eating very well. I'm moving soon and will be upgrading to a bigger tank so he won't be in here long. He's a juvi, only about 3 inches.

Yup, agreed. One of the fish on my "Holy Grail" short list. So i have 2 of those fish off my list now. The Achilles and my Red Tail Sargassum Trigger. I really want a cross hatch trigger but ill have to wait for a pay raise till i get that one, lol.

On a couple side notes, I finally found a green tip, purple base Heteractis Magnifica. Right now it's in my biocube with my black clowns.

Also, Thomas Brown will be visiting myself and a couple others this weekend to film my tank for the next episode of "Tank Wars".
