Blue carpet nem

Hi all--2 questions:

1. Could I put a blue carpet nem in my 58g.?
2. If so, can you get on a waiting list somewhere for one?

Thanks! :)

What type? IMO, Haddoni carpets are easier to care for.
A 58g would be the smallest I would suggest, they can and do get large. What type of lighting do you have?

I was lucky enough to get on from Live Aquaria (as a gift) about 4 months ago.

Here is a picture ( about 2 months old )

Next week I am getting a t5 fixture--4 x39w in addition to the 96w pc I am going to keep on the tank. Also, what clowns do they like to host? Currently I have a saddle clown although I rarely see pictures and/or information on saddle clowns. Any thoughts... :)

I can only speak for Haddonis -- I also have a yellowish/tannish/greenish haddoni that has hosted a cinnamon clown, a pair of saddle backs and a pair of clarkiis.

As for those lights, I would think those would be enough on a 58g, though I don't have any experience with T5s.

Do you have a picture of your clowns? There are a couple that go by that common name.
Here is an old picture of my old saddlebacks (Amphiprion polymnus) with my other haddoni

BTW Todd, your blue carpet is absolutely beautiful! I would really love to have one too.

Thanks a lot, I am really happy with it, and really happy I found it, and didn't have to pay for it. :) It hasn't moved at all since I've put it in the tank, and it eats like a pig and is sticky as all get out.

BTW -- Most people will say that Haddonis will eat fish, I can say that in my 6 + years of having at least one that I've only lost one fish -- it was a yellow watchman goby.

how about keeping a haddoni in a 26G tank with 130w of compacts. I know they can get like 3f long but im going to get a bigger tank 90G soon. What type of haddoni is easiest to care for or light demanding?

Can't find your site Todd. My saddle is very cool, and I saw an adult one (mine is a juvy) that is REALLY cool. :) Can you help me find a picture of one--truly, I never see pics. of them when looking at different clown species

I personally wouldn't put one in a 26, regardless of the lights. I would just wait until you have the 90g up a running -- and running for a while.

Honestly, assuming that you get a healthy one, I don't think there is a difference in care b/t different colored haddonis.

I have two, and I don't do anything different with them.
In this picture you can see them both.

Hi Todd--yep, that's what my saddle looks like. It's kinda crazy because my favorite clowns are the orange skunks yet I have this sweet saddle (who's currently hosting a sebae w/purple tips). But, I would like the blue carpet; so, do you know what the blue carpets host? btw, thanx for helping me! :)

Glad to help. I have a pair of pink skunks in one of my other tanks (with a purple LTA) love them.

Haddonis are a natural host for saddlebacks (Amphiprion polymnus) so I would think that yours would go into it in no time ( though each clown is different ). When I had my pair they were never out of the haddoni, except to eat.

Okay, now I'm getting excited!!! I will be redoing my 58 soon because I am getting a 58 starphire to replace my "regular" 58g. (wish I could upgrade but too costly right now). So, how neat would it be to get the blue carpet and also get another saddle (much smaller than the one I have) and let them become a family. What do you think?!

Also, now I'm totally envious because purple LTAs are also EXQUISITE!! Which do you like better: the blue or the purple? And, is one easier than the other?

I got into reef tanks JUST because I seen a green carpet feeding at a friends house. Cant i just keep a small one now and by the time the 90 is running it will be bigger and better?

lol glad that you are getting excited -- heck I am excited for ya. :)

Think that would be a great idea, and think it would look really great.

Hmm, that is a tough call. For me, the carpet has been easier -- hasn't moved at all since its been in the tank. My LTA on the other hand, released about 6 months ago and got sucked into my SIEO -- lost about a 1/4 of its tenticles but made a full recovery. I don't know if I could pick which one I like better. Love the color of both of them. And when just the actinics are one, there is a slight green tint to the blue carpet -- so cool.

Here is a picture of the purple LTA ( in my 58g )

It isn't easy to find a healthy carpet, and I wouldn't want to risk putting it in a tank that is too small for it. It isn't just the size that the carpet will attain -- with small tanks the water parms will fluctuate too much, and could/will stress out the carpet.

To Zooz, I totally understand your longing for one of these nems because they are so beautiful and so interesting to watch. Here's an idea: why not get some really awesome stuff for the 26g., and, be really excited to get your carpet nem when you get the 90. It will give you something really special to look forward to and it will give you a little bit more time to consider what you truly want and what you don't. Also, most nems need good lighting or they don't do well at all.

Todd, your pictures are beautiful. That purple nem is so pretty--wouldn't one look nice w/orange skunks? Your pink skunks look great! Oh dear, now which one should I plan on. Todd, this is all your fault--you should feel bad showing me your gorgeous nems!!! :D

Thanks, I guess ;) ;) Yep, I really feel bad that you don't know which one to get.

But, thanks for the comment about the pictures. Actually I think that orange skunks might look better with it. :)

That is a hard call, but at least both dwell in the sandbed, so you won't have to change too much depending on which one you get.

Here is another LTA that I have (( It have more of a green tint to it in person, but my camera doesn't like the lights in that tank )) the clowns just "found" it after a couple of mouths. It was pretty bleached when I got it.

thanks guys especially awestruck for your sincere advise. These truly are amazing creatures as are all saltwater creatures. I will go with your idea and just stock up some nice LPS corals and the such for now but when i get that 90G first thing going in AFTER 6 months of cycling will be a haddoni:)
