Blue Jaw Trigger

Fish?
I got a Blue Jaw last Monday and my fish seem to be taking a toll on him. My Hippo tang and some of my yellow tail damselfish have nipped off much of his cadual and anal fins... And I was worried about HIM being too agressive. He has taken to hiding in the upper corners of the tank and only comes out to eat...then gets chased back into hiding. What should I do??? Will the fish work everything out? Do I need to send someone to their room? No tv/phone for a week? I'm just concerned that the trigger is going to become too stressed and kick the bucket on me. Also, how important are those fins?? And will the grow back? I feel so bad for him right now!!!!

difficult to say what will happen.

Established fishes don't want to become a potential Trigger meal someday. I've seen them go after eyeballs. It ain't pretty.

If you really want to keep all the fish for the moment I would try to move the rock work around and mix up their territories. Hopefully that will calm down some of the aggression.

IME this is a case where moving rock around isn't the answer.
Remove some aggressors. Once the Trigger is acclimated and well established you should be able to introduce new fishes.

I agree with Gary, but while you are trying to catch a fish you can fix the rockwork while you are at it. We all know catching a fish is usually a fooling of the fish or a hunt down throughout the tank. Majority of the time, a coral is knocked over, rock's are moved around...eeek. I hate catching fish. But if you have another tank available getting rid of the aggressors is the BEST idea.

Have heard that blacking out the tank for a couple of days will also bring down the stress lvl. Make them sleep for 48 hours. Keep lights off and the room dark.

I attempted to remove the hippo but but gave up and went back to drinking. This morning, the triggerwas very lethargic and I was able to net him. I brought him to my downstairs refugium and added some pvc...an hour later he a died. I now dislike my hippo tang and give him the finger everytime I walk by the tank now...am I being childish?

As for rearranging my rockwork, I don't have the type of aquascape where I have the liberty of doing so...it is where it is.

Agreed. I know I flipped off my old clownfish after she killed a firefish that I had just purchased. I shed no tears when that little ***** (who attaciked me every time I put my hand in the tank) finally went belly up...

Regardless, sorry about your loss...
