Blue Spot Jawfish/Bulk Buy

So far so good...My initial introduction wasn't good as my Clownfish immediately grabbed the bluedot by the tail and held him in his mouth... I had to reach in to seperate them...hopefully things calm down now..

C.J. That Is freaking OMG LOL horrible! I Built my mesh tops and turned mine loose and the first thing It did was try to jump, Bump right back In the tank It went! It has been checked out very closely by my Royal Gramma and Fang tooth Blennies but so far no chasing It around. It Is hiding right now hopefully It will calm down and everybody will get along.
Everybody's welcome and enjoy your fish!
Brandon glad you are happy they are awsome fish for cheap
Special thanks to my friends Jack & Cathy, Super friends....

Hmmm... I'm a little worried.

Anyone else's fish look like this?

He doesn't exactly look healthy to me. Is his stomach that small or is his head oversized?

I'm a bit discouraged... but maybe this is somewhat normal. I'm thinking about putting him in the sump for some alone time, but I'd prefer he not eat all of my pods... heh... not sure if he would, though.

Any thoughts?

Brandon

He looks good. I expect a little skinny...no time to fatten up at an LFS....mine ate already today.

Also, they are called jawfish for a reason :D Big head and jaw compared to body. He's young..give him a chance to grow into himself :-)

Well turns out that was an expensive lunch for my Sally Lightfoot!
It did come out for a short while and was very hyper to say the least, being attacked by my Royal Gramma and the orange shoulder tang. I think It was easy prey and must have been either dying or already dead from stress. Kinda sad as you never know how a new fish will be greeted by an established group.
Sigh.....

Thanks, Andy. I feel a little better. :)

Wow, Bill! That SUCKS! Sorry to hear that! I spent quite a bit on a Scott's fairy wrasse who had the same fate.

Brandon

Sorry about your fish bill I was going tell you put it your frag tank till he got strong. But I was to late that sux:(

Pics look good I'll be on my way soon to get mine can wait. So I'll be on my way soon Andy. Sending you a pm

for those that haven't seen it, there is a nice thread over on nanoreef in the DIY forum called "DIY Jawfish House"....he took some 3/4" pvc street elbows, small sections of pipe & a barnicle & made this:

Ironically I told people about that PVC burrow that you can make and forgot about It In my worry to get this fish out of the bag. I was concerned that It was approaching 24hrs In a bag and didn't want to harm It.

That looks real cool! To bad my jaw fish decided to use all my small zoas in the sand at the front of the tank. I did not get a pic because I wanted to fix the issue fast. But we had not seen the jaw fish in the 180 until this morning. Popping its head out of its new home. Now the fish has found a new home under a rock in the front, so I put some rubble in for him to build. Hope it stays happy there!!!!!!

Well, crap... mine is now MIA. :( I'm fairly certain he died, although I haven't found him yet. Last time I saw him was on Saturday and he didn't look good... he was out, not trying to hide at all, and was breathing hard. Poop.

Brandon

Sorry to hear it Brandon.

I am down to 1..the 180 jawfish jumped to his death....was nothing I could do as had nothing to cover the tank with..knew it was a rsik..but the lil guys in the 29 is doing fine and eating like a horse..eggcrate over that tank until I can get a chance to head to Bills and get that mesh.

Me too, Andy. Sorry to hear about your jumper!

There's a slight chance my dude may still be hiding in my refugium, but I'm thinking probably not. :(

We need to rename this thread to "group buy gone bad....kamakazee fish undermine hobbiest confidence"..lol

Sorry to hear all this bad news and won't be doing any more fish buys ever. Just curious how If you covered your tank properly these fish could have jumped? I thought the net would have prevented them from getting out at all. As I lost mine also to angry tank mates I feel your pain and anyone who has not gotten their net I still have pieces cut that have not been picked up.
I think the group buy went as It should have, The Individual care after the fact, Including my own Is what could have been better!

Bill, my post was not indicative of anything you did or the way the "buy" was handled...it's just a headline caption..... Everyone is thankful to you for doing this.

I am very thankful for the effort that bill an others that had to fish sit for me until I could pick up my fish. Mine is still alive and doing well. He went into hiding as soon as I put him in the tank. So the good thing is there has been no rough housing with my other fish bad thing is all I really get to see is his head as he pokes it out for food :-) that will appease me for now but I hope he starts to get comfortable an come out more.
