bought a new GBTA today :)

Well they had a hard time getting it off of the rock and you can see a bit of torn foot in the photos (white specs), but it was very minimal damage. I decided to take it anyways since it was such a beautiful anemone. I had been keeping an eye on it for a couple of days in the dealers tank and it was very happy and healthy. I have been very successful with damaged BTA's (see avatar) so he should be no problem whatsoever. The pictures were right after acclimation so he is very small. Take a look and feel free to comment. I will have more pictures soon when he opens up completely.

Speaking of, if it's not fully attached (which it might be to the glass now at this point based on those last pictures), put it on a nice safe spot on the rock work. Specifically kind of low if you have strong lighting, and where it can anchor it's foot securely. They aren't sand dwellers.

Yes RokleM, I know. The pictures were taken fresh out of the bag after acclimation.

timrandlerv10, The rock it was attched to weighed about 25 pounds and would in no way shape or form fit in my tank, lol. I tried that one.

nickterp, I got it from Fish Safari.

UPDATE, this morning he has moved somewhat but is completely deflated and his mouth has me worried as it is gaping. I am going to leave him completely alone and not move him onto the rockwork until he reinflates, if he ever does. I have not lost an anemone yet so it will be frustrating if I lose this one. He is already in a bit of a shaded area right underneath of a powerhead (I have T-5 lighting).

Thanks folks for chiming in. If you have any advice for me, I am open to suggestions as I am by far not an expert with these guys. I guess up until now, I have just had wonderful luck with BTA's.

I actually just decided to relocate my GBTA last night. He was on my biggest rock, hiding in a cave and I wanted him more in the open and middle on display.

I tried the ice trick to no avail, so I went with the hanging upside down trick. He slowly let a little piece of the foot loose which I worked the rest loose with. No apparent tears and I threw him in the sump while rearranging. He did drain all of his water while I worked on the foot.

As soon as I finished rearranging, I put him in the spot I had created for him. He was no more inflated than yours is in the pics. He seemed to grab on and the false perc went right to hosting. I turned the lights off (I had to override the timer to finish working) and the clown really dug in. This morning, he was still in the same general spot, but cowering a little more in a crack. Starting to reinflate, though.

Just thought my story might give you some insight.

Upon closer examination, he attched to a piece of rock rubble on the bottom of the tank that a large blue shroom is on. I do not know if shrooms and BTA's will sting each other but they were touching last night. He looks much worse that the pictures. I will get a new shot and post it. I am afraid that he is on his way to the trash can. His mouth is very wide open. The only good sign is that he is halfway attached.

as of right now halfway attached to rubble at bottom of tank

I also snapped a pic of my RBTA in the same tank that is perfectly fine as usual.

Tank params:

Temp 76
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
phospahte 0
dkh 9
magnesium 1350
calcium 400

Salifert test kits used. This particular tank is also nearly a year and a half old.

Last night while feeding my clowns before lights out, a piece of Formula One pellet touched his tentacles and he had a response while he was still inflated, but never did swallow it on my watch. You can see in the new picture, that the food is still sitting on the edge of his gaping mouth and appears to have been swallowed and spit back out when he started gaping.

Is it advisable to feed an anemone when it is in this condition? I have never had one do this before...

I wouldn't attempt to feed it at this point. Just monitor it closely. It is obviously deflated and has a gaping mouth, however I don't see any guts or other signs of decay at this point. It may still be in the irritated stage.

How long did you acclimate it for? Any idea what the LFS water parameters are and how they might differ from your tank?

RBTA looks great btw.

I saved a cup full of tank water from the LFS. I forgot to test it last night and I am glad that you just reminded me. I let it drip acclimate for about two hours. I normally drip for about an hour and a half but gave him some extra time since his foot sustained a bit of damage. There are no guts showing (noodles as I call them). I will wait until it reinflates to feed as I originally planned then :)

Thanks on the RBTA. It is a powerhead survivor. I bought it from its original owner as he was going to throw it away but it did great (started at the size of my pinkie nail and is now 8 inches wide).

Sorry that my pics have been blurry today. I had to move the powerhead so that it did not move the new lil guy across the tank and it resulted in a minor sandstorm. I have moved him up onto the rock and this is the only time I will be moving him. He obviously did NOT like where he was situated and was having a hard time getting up onto the rockwork so I helped him out a bit. He was still halfway attached to the piece of rubble so I just picked it up and sat him to the right of my RBTA. He seems to be much happier right now and is bubbling up again and inflating a bit along with closing his mouth :) When the water clears I will be able to get a clearer shot for everyone.

I will be keeping a day by day journal of pictures as I have done since February with my RBTA in this same tank.

It still looks like it did in the last posted picture. Very full of bubbles though and the mouth is still closed up tight :) It has only been in my tank for 24 hours and looks better already. I can not wait until it gets some more color to it and is healthier. I have a weak spot for BTA's in need when I visit the local LFS. So far so good.
