Are you using any of the Ledzeal unit/s at all troylong45 ?
I see that DIY mode of the controller Malibu has only 8 steps, but reading the manual it have a mode 1 that has increments per hour. Its true? It force the channel color layout, i'snt it? Thanks
The photon 48 looks like a good unit BUT did not like the bulky look to start with as I've decided to fit this inside a canopy that will be made to fit my 5ft reef setup.
The Par readings from the photon 48 are off the scale apparently - talk of these things giving off 600 PAR at 15inch below the water level !!. I've heard that most LPS / SPS don't need more than 300 PAR to be happy. So overkill in my eyes. Having said that - the LEDZEAL units have not been tested for PAR - so that remains open to debate.
Price is around the same. I'm living in Wales, UK and it cost me $476 to have it shipped to my front door. Can't complain with that.
The photon series is used by many successfully but it is true that they are very intense and if you read posts on them many people can only run them at 50%. They are also very bulky.
I tend to think that domestic resellers such as Reefbreeders keep a supply of parts and do their own warranty work. These days much of this is very simple troubleshooting and only requires the replacement of modular components and boards in house. A solid business plan would include enough profit to cover the cost of taking care of warranty in house. It would be silly to send it back to China. I am with troy on this.
Thanks lol I suck with a soldering iron so self repairs will be as bad as a defective unit. I know I should have a back up light (and a back up car and house would be nice to) but I plan on selling my t5 after its replaced so the shorter the shipping for warranty and if shipping is covered if not still cheaper to send in states. I sent a 3 pound return to china and was like 25 bucks if I ship this back lol wow. Still would like to buy though but really puts a damper on the ledzeal unit. If its going to cost a 100 to send to me im sure its atleast same or more to send back
Troy, what Juan said is true. These units are all modular. If something goes bad the repair is easy. You have the fixture which consists panels and fans. A controller and a power supply which is warrantied for two years. If the unit fails Ledzeal will send you a replacement part. No need to send fixture back. If the panel fails after warranty you do have to buy a new one but there is no soldering, just unplug and plug new one in. The only soldering needed is if you want or need to replace a single led. When I first got this unit I took it apart just because I was curious. It's rather simple but well made. Also, the customer service I've had with them and many others I believe that if something did happen they would do the right thing.
Gillguy,
Would you know if any of the malibu units are comparable with other controllers.. Such as Neptune or apex etc. I've got a mate who is interested but has a controller he put together a couple of years ago for another led project he did.
I don't think they are. But I'm sure that someone that is tech savvy and knows about electronics might be able to figure it out just like was done with the Radions and Reef Angel and Apex. I'm sure many people would like that. You should email Kevin at Ledzeal and he might know.
I've placed my order this morning for an S300! You guys make me so excited about this new light, and my addiction got the best of me; I broke down and placed the order. BTW, did any of you pay import custom fees?
Out of curiosity, did anyone on here purchase the wireless controller? I ordered the wireless so that I can adjust it from my bed. I am curious about the difficulty of programing it.
