Bought new led light fixture from China.

Interesting, although Orange plays no role in any of the spectrums I've seen for coral growth (at around 600nm)

To be honest, on requesting a price, Kevin has pushed me back to a UK seller UKMarineLighting as his sole distributor. It doesn't appear to even be a registered company and I don't know what the service/spares options are, but I would have no recompense.

From their website, UKMarineLighting are asking £374 ($560) and ReefLEDLighting £470 ($710) for a S200. :crazy1:

At that price, Radions start to come into budget.

They are still on Alibaba for a cheap price, so I'll ask if they do custom builds otherwise it will be radions, Olphek.or I might treat myself to hydras. :lolspin:

As many of you know, I started this thread and have been a big proponent of the Ledzeal products. Tastyfish, did Kevin say that Ledzeal is no longer selling directly to customers and they have to buy from UKmarinelighting? Because if that is the case, then it's a shame. The light is absolutely fantastic despite the shipping cost because it was still at a great product at a great price but now having to deal with a middleman looks like it has pushed the price closer to the popular names in the industry. I know nothing about UKmarinelighting except that they have a nice website. I'm sure they realized the S series lights from Ledzeal were great products and they wanted exclusive rights to sell and it looks like Ledzeal gave it to them. Ledzeal must believe this is better for them because the don't have to deal directly with the customers. I'm not against UKmarinelighting it's just that I was originally willing to take the gamble because of the price but I don't think I would do it now. They are selling the S300 for L449 which equates to over $500. That's $50 more than I paid. Not much and still worth it but on their website they offer free delivery only to UK and Northern Ireland. If you can still get free delivery to USA or Canada then I'd say it might still be worth it but if you have to pay oversees shipping and the total cost is closer to $600 I'm not sure I'd do it. Not because it's not worth it but because I'm not sure about the company. Maybe they have been in business for a while and are trustworthy. I just felt that dealing with the manufacture directly was very beneficial to the consumer and dealing with them especially Kevin was great. Congratulations to UKmarinelighting for grabbing this contract, I'm sure it will be a great seller for them but for those that did not buy prior to this new arrangement make sure you ask the proper questions about warranty and replacement parts.

Okay I heard directly from Kevin at leadzeal. Ukmarinelighting is a distributor for Europe however Kevin said that Ledzeal is still selling directly to the US and other countries. For those in UK and Ireland Ukmarninelighting has free shipping. Looking at their website they look legit.

Yes, sadly. I haven't yet spoken to them to be fair (they were CC'd on 3 emails but haven't responded yet). :(

Good to know the pricing difference isn't that great, although I would still insist on in-country warranty & replacement if they are importing.

I'll speak to the chap at UKMarineLighting on warranties etc (there is no information on the website around this, which always sets alarm bells ringing) - I can't confirm as I have had no response yet to the 3 emails they have been CC'd on.

I'm also a little cautious as there is no legal company set-up and the address is his house - so not sure I'm comfortable spending that amount with them - options would be limited if there was an after sales problem and as a customer, I may have little recourse which would devalue any warranty they would state. It seems they are importing every reef LED company coming out of China.

I'll let you know what I find out. Incidentally the other company I mentioned also claims to have exclusive rights... :crazy1:

fans on light

fans on light

At what level do your fans start to run?
Mine starts when the levels get above 70%...any way to prevent that?

It sounds like %%&&#&#&#&#

Fans should be almost silent when they turn on. Make sure the blades of the fans are not touching the lid openings which are thin and could have bent downward.

yes, it is the fans on the light itself that sounds like crazy.

I will check if the fans touch the outer aluminium cover, thanks for the tip.
So if that is the case, then I should just bend up the "cut outs" above the fans a little?

If that's the case, I would contact LEDZEAL to rectify the issue.

Yes just lift up the cover a bit. I had one of mine touch the blade and it was crazy loud. If that is not the problem then contact Ledzeal.

change fans

change fans

Has onyone changed the fans on top of the light unit itself into fans that does not buzz as much?

Is that a simple job to do?

On my S 300 when all the 4 fans starts to run it sounds like I have a swarm of flies in the room. Annoying!

Hey Guys. I'm another newbie to the saltwater. had my tank around a year... going to start buying coral soon so figured i should grab an L.E.D fixture as my lighting..been researching these for quite a while... Just not sure of the size of unit and optics i should grab? was thinking of grabbing GillGuy's layout... my tank is 48x24x24. Will i be okay with an s200 or should i grab the s300. and also what optics should i go with? 90s for everything but the red and green from what i read? just wanna clarify before i send my payment tomorrow...thanks in advance.

Hey Anthony
Please let me know how it goes. I'm interested in the s200 but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Thanks Matt

So, I just pulled the trigger on an S200 after Kevin came back to me. Custom build, should be shipped within 3-4 days and a very good price. I was considering 3 x Radions or even Mitras (heat would be too much of an issue), so a LEDZeal seems a bargain.

GillGuy - I took your advice and went for your layout in the end with 120 degree lenses. But also ordered some replacement 90's and UV LED's if I decide I don't need the red and green.

The biggest bonus for me is the launch of the Android app, which looks good! This may be an excuse for me to set-up an Android tablet on the wall as a tank control panel. :)

Not sure how quick DHL ship to the UK, but looking forward to it's arrival and having a play!

Thanks for all your patience and advice to a complete newbie.

Rob

I have changed the optics, easy as pie. Just make sure they are glued correctly and that they are set firmly onto the board to assure the cover fits right back.

Has anyone changed out their LED's? Optics?
I havent looked to see how easy/hard it is....

I've changed both LEDs and optics. Pretty, straight foward. I had to redo about half the LEDs that I changed, because I didn't realize that they had a polarity.

Quick question what are the benefits of the uv led, Im new to this led phenomenon about to pull the trigger on the s200's. Cant wait

LEDZeal's UV LED's operate between 410-430nm. This is an important part of the spectrum which corals utilise - however, you don't want to go as low as 390 as this will cause damage. (see below spectrum graph)

Light absorption by Zooxanthellae

Versus the penetration of wavelengths through seawater:

(both the above graphics from this article: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2012/10/aafeature)

You can see from the above, wavelengths between 400nm to 470nm are likely to be very useful for corals. A word of caution however, our tanks (at least none of those I have ever seen) have 5m+ depths, so it's worth reading the whole article to get the full picture.

I was unsure whether to add more UV to replace the Green and Red LED's on my unit, so Kevin shipped some replacement UV LED's for me if I decided to swap them out.

I received my unit on Friday and had a few plays. It is very impressive, solid and well built and very bright. The fans are a little noisy on the light itself and come on depending on light output across the 4 channels.

I would make sure that you are clear how you want to control the unit before you order. There has been a little confusion on my S200 where I wanted to use the android app, but also ordered a Smart Wifi Controller.

The two light models are different. An App-controlled version cannot be controlled by a controller and vise vera. :(

(I'm just trying to see if there is a solution I can work out with Kevin now as I really wanted the app over the controller).

Hope this helps?

Cheers

Rob
