Hi everyone,

Just got the opportunity to take care of an amazing 300 gallon system. This aquarium has so much potential but as of right now the inside of the tank looks like crap haha. It would be great if you guys could help me out and let me know where I should start!

Thank you

I think the first thing we need to know is what are the tank parameters and what problems are you experiencing. Without those particular numbers we wont know how to diagnois the problem/s if in which are any.

Also, you haven't told us of your own background so we know what you know or don't. You also haven't said where you want to take this tank. What are your goals?

+1 on what dave and newbie said! Also what are the dimensions of that tank???? Doesn't look like theres enough lighting even for a fish only tank.

Ok sorry for not giving that information.

Nitrate: 30ppm (wayyy too high)
Cal: 400
Alk: 8dkh
Mag: 1350
Phosphate: 0ppm (there is a cyano problem so I know there is phosphates in the system)

Hi Dave,

Sorry for not giving enough information. I had an sps dominated 30 gallon system a couple years back so I definitely know what i am doing for the most part. I've never dealt with a large system like this before so I'm just looking for a little advice to start so I don't take the wrong direction right off the bat. The homeowner wants a mixed reef but I am thinking more along the lines of just soft corals because he doesn't want to have to do anything with the tank each day other than feeding. I will be servicing the tank once a week.

I'm not 100% sure on the dimensions but I believe it is 5 feet long x 3 feet high x 2 feet wide. I think it will be enough lighting for a softy tank
